  • Development Hell:
    • A Zorro Continuity Reboot film project starring Gael García Bernal was announced to be in the works in 2015, to be directed by Mexican filmmaker Jonás Cuarón. In 2018, Kiersey Clemons was attached. It's said to have a post-apocalyptic setting, and was going by the titles Zorro Reborn and Z at different points, but to date, nothing has materialized.
    • In 2021, a new film allegedly based on The Curse of Capistrano was announced, to be directed by Uruguayan filmmaker Fede Álvarez (Don't Breathe, Evil Dead). It is unknown if Bernal and Clemons are still part of this one or if it's a rival project.
    • In 2020, NBC announced a TV series reboot developed by Robert Rodriguez about a female Zorro. In 2022, the project moved to The CW. In 2023, it was let go by The CW, but who knows if it may Channel Hop again.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: For some reason, for many years the original Zorro pulp stories were left to languish in obscurity out of print (at best the first novel got reprinted a few times to cash in on the success of The Mask of Zorro, and it and the second novel are now public domain and available on the Internet) and it took until 2017 for all the stories to be compiled and republished. Before this, if one wanted to track the stories down, hunting them down in old pulp magazines was the only way to go. This is in contrast to other pulpy icons like Tarzan and Conan whose original stories stayed in print in some form for a lot longer throughout the decades, and no doubt why Zorro's written origins are even more obscure than theirs, as most of his pop culture impact today is due to all the adaptations and other derivative works (the same being true to them to an extent).
