- Actor Allusion: A very subtle example. Frank Grillo's Leo is implied to be a former sergeant of a hit-squad backed by an evil faction of the Government that wants to preserve order at the cost of human life and liberty. A less subtle example is the fact that Leo's surname is Barnes. In other words, he is Sergeant Barnes.
- Advertised Extra: Emmanuel Howell was literally an extra–he worked five days, had no dialogue and was only paid a few hundred dollars for his work–and was prominently featured on posters and billboards for the film. He considered suing for more money, but lawyers told him he didn't have a case because his contract allowed the studio to use his likeness however they wanted.
- Fake American: Eva's actress, Carmen Ejogo, is Nigerian-Scottish.
- Roberta Valderrama, who played Tanya's Ax-Crazy sister, Lorraine, is Peruvian.
- Real-Life Relative: Zach Gilford and Kiele Sanchez (the couple who gets into the Purge because of The Alleged Car) are husband and wife in real life.
- Those Two Actors: Frank Grillo and Kiele Sanchez play as protector and protectée here, and as lovers in the 2014 TV series Kingdom.
