Trivia / Saltburn

  • Dawson Casting: Alison Oliver, Ewan Mitchell, and Jacob Elordi were all 25 playing eighteen-year-olds or thereabouts, while Barry Keoghan was 29 and Archie Madekwe was 27. Keoghan's casting is likely justified by the fact that Oliver is still around after the ten-year Time Skip, at which point he would be Keoghan's actual age (29), though that doesn't explain everybody else.
  • Fake American: Though Farleigh presumably has dual citizenship, he's considered American and played by the British Archie Madekwe.
  • Fake Brit: Felix is played by Australian Jacob Elordi, and Oliver is played by Irish Barry Keoghan.
  • Spoiled by the Cast List: The actors who play Oliver's parents — Dorothy Atkinson and Shaun Dooley — are identified as Paula and Jeff Quick in the cast list, meaning that anyone who looks at that before watching the film will almost certainly guess that Oliver is lying about his father's death, and therefore will probably guess that he's a far more sinister character than he appears.
  • Production Posse:
    • This film marks the third collaboration between writer/director Fennell and producer Margot Robbie. Robbie also produced Fennell's Promising Young Woman, and Fennell had a small role in Barbie, which Robbie co-produced and starred in.
    • Carey Mulligan, who starred in Promising Young Woman, also plays a supporting role in Saltburn.
  • Revival by Commercialization: Sophie Ellis-Bextor's "Murder on the Dancefloor," which was more than twenty years old at the time of the movie's premiere, topped the charts again and enjoyed a revival on radio play and social media after its usage in the film.
  • What Could Have Been: The original ending had Oliver coming to the breakfast table at Saltburn ready for his first meal as the lord of the manor. However, instead of the lavish breakfast he ordered, Duncan serves Oliver the same runny eggs he had been given on his first visit, making it clear that as far as the staff are concerned, Oliver will never be any different than what he started as. Emerald Fennell didn't feel it was the "triumphant" ending the audience would want.
