Trivia / Ricky Steamboat

Go To

  • Corpsing: In the profile for the Brisco Brothers (Jack and Jerry) in the book The Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame: The Tag Teams, while discussing his and Jay Youngblood's matches with the Briscos, said, "You would not believe the number of times I had to stop from laughing. I'd be in the corner covering my mouth, but you could see my belly bouncing up and down."
  • Creator's Favorite Episode: He's stated that out of the six thousand matches that he wrestled, his favourite is his legendary showstealing bout with "Macho Man" Randy Savage at WrestleMania III.
  • Executive Meddling: He was buried later in his WWF career. If you ask Mr. Steamboat it was because his and Randy Savage's match at WrestleMania upstaged Hulk Hogan's. If you ask WWE it was because they were bitter about him wanting some time off to be with his pregnant wife.
  • Fountain of Expies: Eh, not too many wrestlers actually emulate his persona too much. His style of wrestling though? Primo Colon, Kofi Kingston and at some points even Goldust seem to have been taking notes on him. Which makes sense since they were WCW World Tag Team Champions back in 1991.
  • Real Song Theme Tune: The Alan Parsons Project's "Sirius" in WWF, which is edited out in all modern media releases.
  • What Could Have Been
    • Was originally planned to be in the Survivor Series match against The Nexus, until he was diagnosed with a brain aneurysm.
    • He was put against Chris Jericho on Wrestlemania 25 with Jimmy Snuka and Roddy Piper because Mickey Rourke's agents insinuated he wouldn't win best actor for The Wrestler if he associated with WWE. Also, Vince McMahon wanted Greg Valentine to be in the match alongside the former two but Jericho convinced him to book Steamboat instead. Mind you, that really paid off in the match itself.
    • If he didn't leave WWF earlier, there was a chance he would've been facing Greg Valentine at Wrestlemania V.
