Trivia / Pepsiman

  • Accidentally-Correct Writing: In a case for the video game, the first level has you giving Pepsi to a vending machine to prevent a riot from starting. Although played for humor in the game, a similar concept was played straight 18 years later in the Kendall Jenner Pepsi ad from 2017 but with disastrous results.
  • Channel Hop: Towards the end of Pepsiman's ad campaign, the CG animation's production changed hands; it went from ILM to a VFX company known as The Orphanage. They were responsible for creating the last Pepsiman commercial ever, which referenced the construction site stage from the Pepsiman game.
  • Colbert Bump: Got one from the SGDQ 2016 speedrun. This run made Pepsiman trend on Twitter, temporarily made it the most viewed game on Twitch, and septupled the amount of Twitter followers Mike Butters (the man in the live-action cutscenes) had.
  • No Export for You: There was an American publisher looking into acquiring the rights to publish the game in the United States, but it remained Japan-exclusive likely because the game was based on a series of commercials that aired only in Japan. Ironically, despite only releasing in Japan, the game is voiced entirely in English and all the menus and UI are in English as well. The only text in the game to still be Japanese are the subtitles during both the live-action and in-engine cutscenes. The developers even went the extra mile by hiring an American actor to play as the Pepsi fan in the cutscenes between levels.
  • Pop-Culture Urban Legends: For the longest time, many people thought that the creator of Pepsiman is comic book artist Travis Charest, thanks to this one image posted by Comic Facts on Tumblr. Charest later clarified that he did not create the character; Pepsi Co. only provided him reference art so he can make an illustration that would be used for Pepsi cans.

  • What Could Have Been:
    • One commercial that was scrapped mid way through production was where Pepsiman walks in on a woman taking a shower and goes in to give her a Pepsi and then accidentally touches her breast and, unsurprisingly, gets arrested. It was never made due to the female crew members being angry for making such an inappropriate ad.
    • The video game originally had a fifth stage where Pepsiman had to give Pepsi to cheerleaders to perk them up. Audio and text for this mission can still be found in the game's files.
