• Blooper: As Princess Twilight explains the Storm King and the threat to the Rainbooms, human Rainbow Dash's pegasus wings can be seen switching between hanging loosely and being folded at her sides after each shot change.
• Creator Backlash: Writer Nick Confalone criticized the trailer for focusing on the visit Equestria when it was never the story's focus, leaving fans with unfair expectation that left them disappointed with how little it was utilized.
• Missing Trailer Scene: The promos for this special featured a moment where the Mane Seven (which included a very sunburnt Applejack) took a group selfie together. No such scene occurs in the special itself. It turns out that scene is actually from the short "I'm on a Yacht".
• Recycled Script: Rainbow Dash actively and forcefully hunting for a problem so she can be a hero and annoying others in the process has already happened in the second half of The Mysterious Mare Do Well.
• Word of God:
  • When asked if Spike the dragon's lack of wings meant this special took place before Season 8 of Friendship is Magic, they replied "I suppose yes."
  • Ragamuffin wasn't in the script, but "was a last minute addition that showed up in the final draft as something funny."
