Trivia / Metal Armor Dragonar

Go To

  • End of an Era: Dragonar was the last anime in the 80s real robot boom. Afer it had ended the television mecha anime market overwhelmingly switched to mostly children's productions in the Super Robot Genre - otaku oriented mecha titles were now the exception rather than the norm. It would take until 1995 and Neon Genesis Evangelion for television to turn en-masse once again to more serious productions.
  • No Export for You: The anime has no official release in the anglophone region, but it did have one courtesy of Yamato Video in Italy.
  • What Could Have Been: Dragonar was envisioned as a successor to Gundam without all the Continuity Lockout, and would have replaced it had it outperformed Gundam ZZ. That's right, Dragonar was made for pretty much the same reason as the Gundam alternate universes - and half a decade earlier, to boot. Obviously, given that Gundam is still going strong, ZZ outperformed it. Doubles as a Hilarious in Hindsight as it's episode and storyboard director, Mitsuo Fukuda would go on to direct the Gundam Seed series, which had become the most successful Gundam timeline in Japan since the UC timeline. Meaning that Dragonar in a way lost the battle, but temporarily won the war for a time until Gundam Unicorn brought the Universal Century timeline back to the forefront.
