  • California Doubling: While the film is set in Seattle it was filmed in both New Zealand and Georgia.
  • Fake American: Since it was shot in New Zealand, a significant portion of the supporting cast, notably Jack Cassidy as Brandon and Lori Dungey as Celia, are Kiwi actors playing Americans.
  • Playing Against Type: In the Japanese dub, and, while not the first time she had voiced villains, like Annie Leonhart or Vice, it's pretty unnerving to hear Yu Shimamura, a voice actress normally known for voicing heroic roles or nice girls, like Princess Zelda or Aida Surugan, as the titular Villain Protagonist, voicing a robotic, soft-spoken Serial Killer.
  • Release Date Change: The film was originally scheduled to be released on January 13, 2023, before being moved up a week to January 6 in order to avoid competition with House Party and the wide expansion of the Tom Hanks vehicle A Man Called Otto.
  • Short Run in Peru: The film was first released in Mexico, France, and Belgium during the last few days of December 2022, ahead of its 2023 US release.
  • What Could Have Been: One of the lead writers of the film has stated how it was originally set to be R rated - much bloodier with a higher body count - but it was trimmed down and reshot to a PG-13 when it was decided it would be more effective. The decision would be supported with M3GAN gaining a following with the younger TikTok crowd. The two death scenes many suspect were cut/reshot involve the death of the child psychologist (who suddenly dissapears from the film never to be seen again), and Gemma's two coworkers that show up alive at the end of the film despite having been left to die in a burning lab.
