Trivia / Kyojuu Tokusou Juspion

Go To

  • Late Export for You: In the United States, Discotek Media announced in 2018 that they would release all 46 episodes on Blu-Ray, which would come to fruition the next year, decades after the series' original release in Japan.
  • Pop-Star Composer: The theme song singer, Ai Takano, was a very famous rock singer/drummer during the later '60s/early '70s.
  • Real Life Writes the Plot: Boomerang was meant to stick around as a recurring cast member. However during shooting Hiroshi Watari had to leave for leg surgery forcing the character to disappear from the show. As a compromise for what happened, Toei cast him as the lead in Spielban.
  • The Merch: Even today, Juspion gets tons of merchandise released in Brazil. Including two comic adaptions (one of which has him team with his successor Spielban!). One of the first was a doll that was visibly RoboCop painted in Juspion colors (a sculptor for the company admitted that they wanted something to cash in until the molds for a more faithful toyline were built, something that took two months).
  • What Could Have Been
    • The show was intended to be a full-fledged space opera, with each episode set in a new alien planet as Juspion traveled from world to world. This was quickly dropped with Juspion arriving on Earth in the fourth episode.
    • One of the names proposed to the character, in an early stage of the pre-production, would be Deniro, as a homage to actor Robert De Niro, following the pattern of naming Metal Heroes after film personalities, like Shaider after American actor Roy Scheider and Gavan after French actor Jean Gabin. Spielban, named after American filmmaker Steven Spielberg would continue the pattern a year later.
  • Working Title: Began as Yojuu Hunter Deniro, then Kaiju Tokusou Juspion.
