Trivia / Julian McMahon

Go To

  • Actor-Inspired Element:
    • Christian Troy's surname was originally 'Vega' and the character was written to be Latino, but changed when he was cast.
    • In Fantastic Four (2005), he suggested having Victor's scars sealed by surgical staples. The character was also intended to have a Transylvanian accent until Julian opted to mix his natural Australian with a general American.
  • Actor-Shared Background:
    • Cole Turner of Charmed is introduced as an assistant District Attorney. Julian had studied law prior to getting into acting.
    • Victor Von Doom of Fantastic Four (2005) is a Latvian monarch. Julian is also the son of a world leader and aristocrat.
  • Creator Backlash: He and the rest of the cast disliked Season 3 of Nip/Tuck.
  • Fake American: The majority of his roles. If you want to see him play an Australian, you mostly have to watch reruns of Home and Away. He played an Australian for the film Swinging Safari, and admitted he found that hard as he had been so used to putting on the American accent for years.
  • Romance on the Set:
    • He and Danni Minogue met on Home & Away and later married, but divorced after 18 months.
    • He and Shannen Doherty were dating while on Charmed, and fans eagerly point to a couple of Ship Tease moments in the episode "The Good, the Bad & the Cursed" when the characters have to work together (which coincidentally was directed by the actress herself).
  • Star-Derailing Role: While Premonition was financially successful, the dreadful critical reviews (8% on Rotten Tomatoes) and the failures of Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer and Prisoner killed his leading man hype. Television was much kinder to him though.
  • Star-Making Role: The unexpected popularity of Cole Turner in Charmed (1998) definitely helped him make it big.
  • Typecasting: Often as villains or morally grey characters.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Cole Turner was intended as a seven episode character who would be killed off at the end of his arc. Everyone liked his chemistry with Alyssa Milano, and this led to Cole becoming a regular until the middle of Season 5.
    • He was one of many actors touted to replace Pierse Brosnan as James Bond until Daniel Craig got the role.
