Trivia / In Bruges

Go To

  • Deleted Role: Matt Smith as young Harry in a deleted flashback.
  • Deleted Scene:
    • A flashback where young Harry (played by Matt Smith) decapitates a policeman, implied to be the man who killed Ken's wife.
    • Ray and Ken are lying in their beds discussing Ray's murder of the priest and the little boy. Ray ponders over why he was sent to kill the priest, guessing it was likely pedophilia. Ken counters that Harry was behind a land-buying deal that the priest opposed.
    • There were multiple flashbacks that Harry has in Bruges where we see him as a young child there, and we learn that his strong feelings towards the wellfare of children come from the fact he was essentially sold off to a pedophile. And it is heavily implied that said pedophile was the priest Ray killed from the ring he is wearing, meaning he really was a pedophile like Ray thought.
    • Harry is on a train to Bruges, where he is verbally aggressive to a fellow traveler who attempts some small talk.
    • Ray is discussing his date with Ken, and when Ken finds out that it will take place at a restaurant, he predicts correctly that it will turn out badly.
  • Fake Nationality:
    • The Canadian tourist in the restaurant is played by a Slovenian-American.
    • The fat American tourist family are clearly not played by Americans, with the father played by a Welshman barely hiding his accent and them peppering "pardon me?" into conversation.
    • The American Jimmy was played by a Canadian.
    • And Belgian Chloë was played by Frenchwoman Clémence Poésy.
    • Averted with Ken and Ray. They were originally written as Brits, but the script was altered when two Irishmen signed on to the parts.
  • Troubled Production: Ralph Fiennes was thrown out of his hotel after... making a scene in a fountain.
  • Uncredited Role: The short role of Ciarán Hinds as the priest went uncredited.
