Trivia / Honky Tonk Man

  • Hostility on the Set: Why his WCW run only lasted a few months. Eric Bischoff never had any interest in bringing Honky into the company, only doing so because he was friends with Hulk Hogan and Jimmy Hart. On his end, Honky was angry that he was being paid per appearance rather than being given one of the infamously exuberant guaranteed contracts that Bischoff gave to almost everyone else on the roster. Adding more fuel to the fire was the fact that Honky refused to put over Johnny B. Badd at Halloween Havoc 1994 and refused to do so again at Starrcade 1994 unless he was given a contract. Honky claims he walked out of the company the night of Starrcade after his demands weren't met while Bischoff claims he fired Honky after he threatened to hold up the pay per view. To this day, still bad blood between Bischoff and the Honky Tonk Man as the two regular trade insults on their podcasts and on social media.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: A botched guitar shot from Honky Tonk Man to Jake The Snake Roberts had terrible long-term effects for the latter. The guitar was not gimmicked as the ones Honky Tonk Man typically weaponized were. Expecting a gimmicked guitar, Jake took the shot to the head unprotected. The blow caused two discs in his spine to (in Jake's own words) explode, and began the chronic neck problems that started Roberts to start using - and then infamously abusing - painkillers.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • On the June 13th 1987 editions of WWF Superstars, Ricky Steamboat was originally set to drop his Intercontinental Heavyweight Championship title to Butch Reed; Butch ended up no-showing that night and in a last minute choice, management sent out Honky Tonk Man to take the title. This was the start of his record-breaking reign of holding the title, and who knows how the title would've gone if things originally went to plan.(this is a debatable rumor as Butch Reed was shown in the locker room celebrating with Honky after his win).
    • The breakup of his "Rhythm & Blues" Tag Team was supposed to lead to a "Rhythm VS Blues" match at Wrestlemania VII against his former partner, Greg Valentine; Honky left the company right when the breakup was set.
