- After winning the Intercontinental Championship on June 2nd in 1987, The Honky Tonk Man would hold it until August 29th, 1988, for a record-setting 453 days. Until Gunther broke the record on September 8, 2023, no one else had even come close to duplicating the feat, with the longest reign since he dropped the title only lasting 280 days.
