Trivia / Get a Mac

Go To

  • Actor-Inspired Element: Whenever the writers struggled with coming up with jokes (which was often, given that they were shooting about twenty ads a day and had to work around-the-clock), they would ask John Hodgman, a comedy writer with lots of experience in the field, for ideas, most of which stuck.
  • Creator Backlash: While Justin Long never disliked playing Mac, he was not very fond that he had to play the Straight Man to PC, who was a much funnier character to play. He also felt that Mac was too mean-spirited and smug and tried to make him more likable, with the writers tweaking lines to make him be much less of a jerk.
  • Deleted Scene: Hundreds of ads were filmed but went unaired due to Steve Jobs, who served as a one-man creative committee of sorts, approving only a handful of them to go on air. Several of these unaired ads included celebrity guest stars like Gisele Bündchen, Jeffrey Tambor, Jenna Fischer, and Zach Galifianakis. The Galifianakis ad in particular (where he played a drunken Santa Claus) has achieved a somewhat mythical status in the advertising world and it's become one of the most famous unaired ads ever.
  • Technology Marches On: Gaming ended up being the most high-profile "fun" thing one does on a computer, and the PC, over the course of the next decade, became by far the better-equipped computer to handle it, while still being business-friendly. The Mac was never really able to compete (even the App Store's selections were little more than adapted mobile games), and with public perception of bland corporate life shifting from suits, refusal to move with the times, and chunky PCs to casual dress, a desperate obsession with online trends, and Macs, it was the Mac that ultimately wound up being seen as the "boring" computer.
