Trivia / Fire Emblem: Thracia 776

Go To

  • Acclaimed Flop: While Thracia 776 received all-around good scores from critics, the game sold terribly due to being released in January 2000; way past the prime of the Super Famicom's life. The sales weren't helped by a lack of confidence in the title and a tiny print run of just under 100,000 units (the lowest print run of any Fire Emblem game) making the game a hot commodity for collectors as time went on.
  • Dummied Out: Many items, weapons and characters have been jotted from the game before it was released (there would have been more varied Fire and Light magic, for example).
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes:
    • Ever since the Nintendo Power service discontinued in 2007, cartridges containing the original Nintendo Power version of the game is extremely rare, as the kiosks distributing it have long since removed.
    • The Wii Virtual console port of the game is no longer available as of the Wii Shop Channel's closure in 2019. Also, it can no longer be purchased on the Wii U and new 3DS eShop, as they were shuttered on March 27th, 2023. As of 2023, it, Gaiden, and The Sacred Stones are the only 2D non-remake mainline games to not be ported onto the Nintendo Switch, especially via the Nintendo Switch Online service. It also makes it one of the few Super Famicom games with this status.
  • Magnum Opus Dissonance: At the time of release, Shouzou Kaga considered this the best installment in the Fire Emblem series alongside the game it serves as a Midquel to, Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War. In spite of praise from critics, it sold poorly at the time of release, and continues to remain one of the most obscure and divisive installments in the series.
  • Reclusive Artist: Mayumi Hirota served as the artist for Thracia 776, and beyond becoming the artist and character designer for Shouzou Kaga's post-Fire Emblem games, almost nothing is known about her, including her personal life, age, and year of birth. Unfortunately, she was reported to have passed away on December 13th, 2018.
  • Shrug of God: The deal with Finn being either Nanna's canon father or her Parental Substitute. While it's stated in Fire Emblem's 20th Anniversary Book that her biological father is whoever the player married Lachesis to, and that Finn is more of her adoptive father... the pool of men that Lachesis can marry in Genealogy includes Finn and Thracia 776 has Nanna unable to use the Beo Sword (unlike her older brother Diarmuid and Beowulf's Heroic Bastard Fergus), so the matter remains muddled.
  • What Could Have Been: Unconfirmed reports of what could have been in Thracia 776 include:
    • Veld possibly not being the Anti-Climax Boss he was. Also, Dummied Out dialogue hints at there being a True Final Boss after Veld, who judging by their lines being in katakana was probably a monster.
    • Some of the "substitute characters" and a canon one were supposed to be playable in Thracia 776. The list would've included Arthur, Jeanne, Daisy, Asaello, and Hermina, who even had portraits.
    • Ishtar, Manfroy, and Julius were fightable and would attack the player if they got too close. Data exists to confirm that Ishtar would be fightable at one point. Chances are, people would try to see if they could kill them.
    • Mentioning that Eyvel might have been Brigid from the start.
    • Reinhardt would be recruitable. (This is the basis for his early playability in Fire Emblem Heroes and the lord of memes that resulted.)
    • A desert chapter involving freeing people turned to stone by Veld.
    • The Luck Stat would be removed from the status screen, but still exist internally, to "create an element of uncertainty."
    • A journal made by Shouzou Kaga, the series' creator, mentions that he wanted Thracia 776 to be ported to the Nintendo 64 (which probably could've given the game a sales boost since it was the Super Famicom's last game). He also wanted the game's overall difficulty to be reduced in the port so that new players could enjoy it.
