  • Actor Allusion:
    • Someone comments to Yoshi that the setting is a lot like 16th century Japan, to which Yoshi answers with a funny look. Gackt had memorably appeared in the Jidaigeki show Fuurin Kazan as Uesugi Kenshin.
    • Woody Harrelson and Demi Moore play lovers who have been split apart by a wealthy tycoon who was infatuated by Moore. This mirrors Indecent Proposal.
    • Woody Harrelson also certainly knows how to tend a bar.
    • The Narrator's line "Happy birthday, fucker," is lifted straight from the Faith No More song "The Gentle Art Of Making Enemies." The Narrator is played by Faith No More's vocalist, Mike Patton.
  • Awesome, Dear Boy: This movie is a very stylistic film that cost a lot of time and money to shoot, but Guy Moshe just loved the idea.
  • Completely Different Title: In Brazilian lands the movie's called "A Lawless City".
  • Dawson Casting:
    • Teenage Momoko is portrayed by 25-year-old Emily Kaiho, who sort of pulls it off by being fresh-faced and petite.
    • Much is made of how Yoshi is the younger of the protagonists, and inexperienced and hot-headed as a result. Gackt meanwhile is pushing forty (but looks twenty years younger).
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: The Woodcutter plays poker remotely by having an assistant show his hand to a video camera and making decisions based on it. On the first hand the audience sees, the Drifter has a full house: K♣ K♠ K♢ 8♡ 8♣. Nicola has a full house, too: over the video link it first appears as A♣ A♠ A♡ Q♣ Q♠, but on the reveal at the end of the hand it has inexplicably changed to A♠ A♣ Q♡ Q♣ Q♠, causing him to lose the hand. In the over-the-shoulder angle shown right before and right after the video feed, the mook is holding A♠ A♣ Q♢ Q♣ Q♠.
