Trivia / Bunny Wailer

Go To

  • Cowboy BeBop at His Computer: People sometimes think Jean Watt (the composer credited on "Hallelujah Time" and "Pass It On") is a pseudonym for Judy Mowatt. They are different people, with Jean having been Bunny's wife for many years. Unbelievably, this fact wasn't widely known till the disappearance of Jean in 2019, which Judy made online posts about.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: A few of his albums have never been released on CD in full - these include "Struggle", "In I Father's House", "Hook Line And Sinker" and "Live!". In addition, this was the case with a number of his early single recordings, such as "Searching For Love", "Lifeline", "Arab Oil Weapon", "Pass It On" and the original "Bide Up", until Dubstore reissued them several years ago.
  • Prison Rape: During his time in prison in the late 60s, Bunny stated that he witnessed this happening on a regular basis. He was not a victim himself, however, as others were intimidated by him. Unfortunately, these experiences gave Bunny a negative view of homosexuals (although, Jamaica wasn't exactly known for its liberal views on them).
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: He and his stepbrother Bob Marley had very vocal disagreements with each other at times (particularly after The Wailers signed to Island), but they still had a great deal of respect for each other. He and Peter Tosh were also very close friends, but don't qualify as much because they tended to agree with each other.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: His wife Jean Watt went missing in 2019 and has sadly still never been found, even after Bunny's death.
  • Yoko Oh No: He had a strong dislike of Rita Marley, alleging that she interfered in The Wailers' affairs on numerous occasions. This started when she filled in for him when he went to prison, and particularly her signing to JAD as part of The Wailers to JAD whilst Bunny initially missed out. Later, she was reputedly selling records without giving the royalties to the band, and after Bob died, her desire to sell off Tuff Gong's assets without consulting Bunny and Peter (who had formed the company with Bob).
