- Banned in China: The film cannot be screened in Vietnam due to the its "little child (with superpower) killing several people" premise.
- Completely Different Title:
- The Spanish release of the film is simply titled "El Hijo" ("The Son"), which is different enough, but the Latin American one goes further by being titled "Brightburn: El Hijo de la Oscuridad" ("Brightburn: The Son of Darkness"). This makes it sound like Brandon is an Expy of Damien Thorne and not an "Evil Superboy", or that his parents are even more to blame for his evil (which makes sense, when referring to his biological parents). Something along these lines happens in the Italian dub, being named “L’Angelo del Male” ("The Angel of Evil"), again making it sound like a demonic horror flick instead of a superhero deconstruction.
- Just like the Latin American release, the Vietnamese title of the film is "The Son of Darkness". Unfortunately, the film is pretty much banned in Vietnam. See Banned in China above.
- In Japan, it was named as Brightburn: Kyōfu no Kakusansha (Subtitle translated as "The Spreader of Terror").
- Crossdressing Voices: In the Japanese dub, Brandon is voiced by Umeka Shoji.
- No Budget: The movie was made with just $6-7 million.
- Playing Against Type: Played a bit in in the Japanese dub: While is not the first time we hear Umeka Shoji (Brandon) voicing either villains or little boys, most of the time they are either punch-clock villains, The Rival or the anti-villain. This film is one of the few roles Shoji is voicing a character who is both outright evil, and a teen man.
- Production Posse: The film is produced by James Gunn, who has previously worked with Elizabeth Banks and Michael Rooker.
- What Could Have Been: One alternate ending involved Caitlyn getting a robotic replacement for her hand after Brandon crushed it, and looking extremely pissed off at him, in what would've been a Sequel Hook for Caitlyn becoming Brandon's Arch-Enemy.
- You Look Familiar: The Stinger and Word of God confirm that this film shares a universe with Super. But Michael Rooker also played one of the villain's henchmen in that film. Perhaps the pundit hates "superheroes" because one killed his twin brother?
