- Cast the Expert: Borgen is Svend Hardenberg's first acting gig. He was a high-level Greenlandic politician in the past, having been Permanent Secretary to the Premier of Greenland and mayor of the former Qaasuitsup municipality.
- Life Imitates Art:
- Shortly after the series debuted on DR, Denmark elected its first female prime minister in real-life in the form of Helle Thorning-Schmidt. Her coalition: the Social Democrats, the Social Liberals and the Socialist People's Party with Red-Green support, very similar to Nyborg's coalition.
- In 2014, Schmidt's government was destabilized after the Socialist People's Party quit her government, under circumstances not unlike the exit of the Greens from Nyborg's government in series two.
- In 2015, Schmidt's bloc narrowly lost the election and the previous PM, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, ended up taking back in the top job (although as leader of a Liberal-only minority government) - just like in the show.
- One Danish politican advocated a bill of rights for sex workers - and was accused of only having done it because she'd seen it on Borgen.
- Pilou Asbæk decided to become more politically active in 2022 by joining the Danish Social Democratic Party with the aim of influencing the party into changing its controversial refugee policy.
- The Other Darrin: Brigitte's son Magnus was recast in the fourth series, with Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen taking over the role from Emil Poulsen note . In a bit of a Casting Gag, Lucas Lynggaard Tønnesen revealed in an interview that he and Emil Poulsen went to the same school as kids.
- Playing Against Type: Ole Thestrup (Svend Åge Saltum) was far better known for comedic roles.
- Star-Making Role:
- Sidse Babett Knudsen, Pilou Asbæk, and Birgitte Hjort Sørensen were already well-known in Denmark, but have earned international fame thanks to the series' exposure; Knudsen and Sørensen both had major roles in HBO series (Knudsen in Westworld and Sørensen in Vinyl), and Asbæk was cast in major roles in the movie blockbusters Lucy, The Great Wall, Ben-Hur (2016) and Ghost in the Shell (2017), as well as the role of Euron Greyjoy in Game of Thrones.
- Mikael Birkkjær, who plays Nyborg's ex-husband, became something of a sex symbol after Borgen premiered in Britain.
