Trivia / Any Bonds Today?

Go To

  • Creator's Favorite Episode: In his memoir That's Not All, Folks!, Mel Blanc proudly mentions this short, particularly citing the participation of Irving Berlin and helping out the war effort in general. Blanc also loved doing his Al Jolson impression, so that's likely another reason it was a favorite.
  • Doing It for the Art: Or, more like Doing It For The Patriotism. Warner was commissioned by the government to make the cartoon and did it for no charge, while Irving Berlin assigned his royalty money for the song to the bond drive.
  • Absurdly Short Production Time: Bob Clampett reportedly finished it in three weeks, beginning in the last week of November 1941 and finishing on December 15, with Pearl Harbor happening during production. Obviously the short duration helped. A typical animated short of the period took about two months to finish.
  • Referenced by...: During the opening scenes of The Cinema Snob's 2011 review of Hitler, Dead or Alive, Brad Jones uses footage from this cartoon, but cuts away before Bugs's face turns into Blackface. He lampshades this by saying:
Snob: Sure hope nothing horribly offensive happened at the end of that cartoon...?
