- Scarlet Devil Mansion faces complete defeat against the variants. Sakuya is mutilated by Variant Reimu, Remilia is severely injured by Variant Reimu and later Variant Daiyousei, Patchouli falls to her death after a curse by Variant Sanae, Koakuma is Driven to Suicide after suffering a curse by Variant Sanae, Meiling, despite her best effort, loses to Variant Marisa in a fight and gets killed by Variant Sanae's curse after her defense gets weakened, and Flandre suffers Break the Badass after Variant Marisa cut off both her arms and burned her alive. Granted, her arms regrow later, but still...
- Marisa arc shows a corpse of seemingly random girl wielding a bow, with expression of fear and suffering. Cirno arc later reveals that the corpse belongs to a fairy named Vinca, who sacrifices herself by stalling the Three Fairies of Light variants in a losing battle so that Tee can bring Cirno to a safe place.
- Cirno turning into a Tragic Ice Character after seeing way too many death, complete with Dull Eyes of Unhappiness is both awesome and heartwrenching.
- It is also a bit heartwarming to see that with Cirno tapping into higher understanding of her power, Vinca's sacrifice is definitely not in vain.
- Rumia's arc shows her getting beaten up and being Forced to Watch her friends' torture at the hands of variant monsters. Soon, EX-Rumia comes out and dishes vengeance, but it's too late, as Wriggle has just died. She later laments at her weakness for not being strong enough to defend her loved ones without relying on her Superpowered Evil Side.
- Shanghai's death is nothing short of heartbreaking. Forced to choose between her own life and Shanghai's, Alice callously abandons the doll that was essentially her daughter. Shanghai is left in tears as Variant Marisa gleefully mocks her, before burning her to a crisp. It doesn't help that this is when Shanghai speaks for the first and last time.Shanghai: ALICE... YOU LIED TO ME! YOU TOLD ME!! THAT YOU WOULDN'T LEAVE ME!! YOU LIAR!! You.. cheater..."
- Even worse, this wasn't even Alice being a Dirty Coward. She was ready to die to save Shanghai, until she realized that dying would mean she wouldn't get to be with Marisa. In the end, everything and anything, from her child, to her sister, to her own sanity, is disposable if it means a relationship with the black-white witch...
- Elaborating on the sister part, given a ritual to become an adult by sacrificing an infant, Alice gleefully stabbed her baby sister to death as a child. Shinki, who's been nothing but loving and concerned for Alice, walks in on the aftermath, and what little of the real her can be seen through Alice's hallucinations is heartbroken and crying.

- Surprisingly, the death of a variant manages to be this. Variant Keine, while domineering, abusive, and just as unstable as the rest of the variants, really did seem to be trying to help Mokou in her own way. The fact that she spends her last moments lamenting her failure to save Mokou, trying to comfort her, and ultimately delivering a warning speaks volumes.Variant Keine: I wanted to save you... What lies ahead of you... is nothing short of hell. I am not Keine. So... there's no need to cry. Mokou. Be careful of the.. woman with... the cross...
