     Season 1

Episode 01: Limbic Resonance

  • Jonas trying to comfort Angel as she prepares to kill herself in the very first scene of the series.

Episode 02: I Am Also A We

  • Nomi's whole family situation. Her mother refuses to accept anything about her, constantly making it clear she really Wanted a Gender-Conforming Child. Her little sister is the only one who actually respects her identity and name. On top of that, she is basically imprisoned in a hospital and her mother clearly enjoys lording over her financial position over Nomi so that she can be given a lobotomy. She isn't able to leave her room, and she can't contact Amanita, the one person she truly loves.

Episode 03: Smart Money is on the Skinny Bitch

  • Capheus' entire relationship with his mother. She's really all he's got in the world.
  • Amanita finally managing to get a call in to Nomi while she's trapped in the hospital

Episode 04: What's Going On?

  • Doubles as heartwarming: Nomi's reunion with Amanita in the taxi.
  • Sun's relationship with her father (she was The Unfavorite because of her gender, despite being far more competent and loyal than her irresponsible Jerkass brother), tied with her memories of her dying mother and the promise she made to her to protect her brother. It goes so far that when Sun explains the plan that is basically her taking the fall for Joong-ki, she says that the reason it would work to lessen the impact on the company is because the outside world isn't even aware that their father has a daughter.

Episode 05: Art is like Religion

Episode 06: Demons

  • Watching Sun take the fall for her brother, when you know he would never do the same for her. She is being so brave but you can see how scared she looks.
    • Sun handing her dog to her mentor is also painful to watch.

Episode 07: W.W.N.Double D.?

Episode 08: We Will All Be Judged By The Courage of our Hearts

  • Wolfgang's memories of the abuse and violence he had to put up with because of his criminal family and the bullying he faced as a child. His happy recollections of time spent with Felix makes it clear Felix was his Only Friend (until the cluster came along) culminating in Wolfgang sitting at Felix' bedside, holding the hand of his best friend who is fighting for his life.
  • Dani trying to laugh off her black eye to Hernando, saying that if there is one thing that life has taught her, it's that she knows how to take a punch. The look on Hernando's face really says it all.
  • When Hernando dumps Lito, all Lito can do is watch desperately as Hernando walks away from him, pleading with him not to go.
Lito: Hernando, please don't leave me, please...
    • The circumstances surrounding their break up in relation to Dani. She chooses to go back to a man who abuses and beats her just to save Lito's reputation.

Episode 09: Death Doesn't Let You Say Goodbye

  • Riley goes to her late husband and baby daughter's graves, breaking down crying for not having been strong enough to come earlier.
    • Capheus joins in to comfort her, and he recalls how he and his mother were forced to give his little sister up to the care of an orphanage because they couldn't provide enough for her as well.
  • Capheus relating the story of how his mother defended him from some men who wanted to kill him because of the tribe his father was from.
  • Kang-Dae Bak realizing that he's made a mistake and attempting to not only set Sun free, but to reconnect with her once more.
  • Nomi recounting her childhood trauma to Lito to encourage him to be honest with himself about his sexuality. Lito screaming "Stop it!" at the top of his lungs by the time she's done is particularly heartbreaking because it's clear this is him channeling her emotions, rather than asking her to stop the story.
    • Nomi's entire speech to Lito about the importance of self-acceptance can really hit close to home for LGBT people.
Nomi: I quit trying to fit in, trying to be one of "them". I knew I never would be. But more importantly, I didn't want to be. [The bullies'] violence was petty and ignorant, but ultimately, it was true to who they were. The real violence, the violence that I realized was unforgivable, is the violence that we do to ourselves when we're too afraid to be who we are.
  • Lito hitting the Despair Event Horizon and trying to kill himself with the (fake) gun.
    • While it is certainly funny in a Cringe Comedy kind of way, Lito sobbing over the phone in the bathtub, emotionally broken and falling to pieces really hurts, especially once you realize that despite his public persona, he is a deeply self-conscious man with a very low sense of self-worth, and he needs Hernando.
      • The final message he leaves, where he tells Hernando that he simply misses the sound of his voice. Whenever Lito talks about Hernando, one of the first things he highlights is how much he loves to hear Hernando speaking so passionately about everything. Now that Hernando has dumped him, the only thing he really wants is to just hear him speaking.

Episode 10: What Is Human?

  • The montage of the Cluster remembering their births is mostly happy save for two moments.
    • Nomi's reaction isn't as positive as the others and she looks very conflicted after the shot of her mother saying her deadname shortly after delivering.
    • The montage ends with the first glimpses of the car accident that killed Riley's husband and her delivering her baby alone. Present day Riley is distraught when the memory starts and eventually collapses with a massive nosebleed.

Episode 11: Just Turn the Wheel and the Future Changes

  • Riley's dad quietly playing Baba O'Riley is very painful. It's probably the worst situation to be in as a parent, and all he can do is wait.
    • On a similar note, Will choosing to consciously stay with Riley the whole time may make you tear up a little too.
  • From Joong-ki's behavior, Sun realizes that he murdered their father to save his own skin, viciously attacks him, and vows to make him pay for his crimes as she's dragged away by the prison guards.

Episode 12: I Can't Leave Her

  • This episode treats us to a very long and brutal expansion of Riley's backstory. Her husband died in a car crash while driving her to the hospital, leaving Riley to give birth by herself in the middle of a snowstorm, and she was forced to leave him so she can hike herself and her newborn daughter to safety. She ultimately fails and her daughter dies of exposure. She is so overcome by grief that she collapses in the snow and won't move. She was ready to die out there, but ended up getting rescued.
    • Will then experiences this memory for himself and the ensuing grief as they are trying to escape and it brings him to tears as well.
Will: I know how much it hurts. I know you want to lay down here and never get up again. I know it, 'cause I feel it. I can feel it.
  • Wolfgang finally getting revenge for Felix and murdering his uncle would seem awesome at first, until you realize that Kala has witnessed the whole thing, and then he tells her that she has to marry Rajan because he is too much of a monster to be with her. Next time we see Kala, she's still crying.

     Season 2

Episode 1: Happy F*cking New Year

  • Will's phone call to his father. Especially since his dad started drinking again due to grief over Will's disappearance. Later, Whispers appears at Mr. Gorski's house to tell him lies about Will and subtly threatens him in front of Will, who starts breaking down at the thought of his father getting hurt.
  • Doubles as Heartwarming: Lito's mom accepting him, Daniela, and Hernando into her home after he is outed.
    • Also when Hernando reveals his parents died in a car accident on New Year's, and when Daniela talks about how her own Dysfunctional Family was prone to getting in fights.

Episode 4: Polyphony

  • Mr. Pasquale tells Lito about the last time he heard from his son, Raoul, who went missing on a trip to California. He received a phone call where the person on the other side didn't speak, but Mr. Pasquale could tell it was his son. Knowing that it was probably the last time they'd get to speak Mr. Pasquale simply says "I love you". The audience gets to see that Angelica was holding up the phone to Raoul, who had tears streaming down his face and clearly wanted to speak but couldn't as he'd been Grafted.

Episode 9: What Family Actually Means

  • Will's father's death. Between the acting, the music, the fact that Will is unable to be there in person, and the flashbacks to their imperfect relationship that they'll never be able to fix, the whole scene is gut-wrenchingly real.
