Mawthra's name is a portmanteau of "maw," the jaw or throat of a voracious animal, and "Mothra" the name of the guardian moth Kaiju from the Godzilla franchise.

The Mythic-type move The World, the signature move of Chronos, freezes the opponent in place, making them unable to do anything, including using items, switching out, or fleeing, for the next turn. It takes clear inspiration from the stand of the same name from Jojos Bizarre Adventure.
Skins
The Skrappey line's Investigator Skin is based on the titular character from Inspector Gadget.
The Nibblen line's Chimera Skin is based on Shaiapouf, the butterfly Royal Guard from Hunter × Hunter.
The Yagoat line's Detective Skin is a reference to the Sherlock Holmes franchise's eponymous detective.
Squed/Moyai:
The Royal skin is a reference to the Queen of Heart's guards from Alice in Wonderland.
The Army skin bears a striking resemblance to Tankman from the Newgrounds website.
The Will Tango skin resembles Builderman, David Baszucki's Roblox avatar.
Louis:
The Spirit Phone skin is a reference to Lemon Demon's Spirit Phone album.
The Poptart skin is a reference to the Nyan Cat meme.
The Sacred Painting skin is a reference to The Mona Lisa.
Shelldo/Shadark/Horbeast:
The Dark Crusader skin features the line wearing a Batman cosplay, particularly the original getup as opposed to a newer rendition of his outfit.
The Winter skin puts the line in a red fluffy jacket, slinging a patchwork bag over one shoulder. The misprint, which is a nice shade of green, particularly makes your Doodle look like a grinch.
The Shyce line's Starlight skin looks awfully similar to White Diamond from Steven Universe. The misprint is pink, making it a reference to Pink Diamond instead, White's opposite in the Diamond Authority.
The Sharpup line's .WAV skin is a reference to Scratchin' Melodii, specifically the character Nami and her song Nami.WAV. The misprint changes the color scheme to resemble Melodii instead.
Hattrix's Dark Prince skin resembles Ralsei, the "prince from the dark" from Deltarune.
Finwick's Idol skin is just Finwick, but with the twintails of Hatsune Miku.
The Bunsweet line's Mercenary skin seems to be a reference to the Scout from Team Fortress 2.
The Oribirb line's Butler skin resembles a Swatchling.
NPCs
Some of the homeowner NPCs in Snowy Summits make references to characters from other media. One wears a Tails T-shirt, another wears the cloak of The Lamb, and others are designed like actual characters such as Red and Enel. Justified since many of these are the avatars of the user in question.
