Recap / Zombie Land Saga Revenge E11

Go To

The one where everything falls apart...very, very literally.

The second episode of a three-part finale arc for Revenge.

Tropes:

  • Ambiguous Situation:
    • The last scene of Jofuku is him being escorted into an ambulance. In the following episode, we see him weeks later, seeming alright.
    • In addition to the children, there were adults, presumably some of them parents, who witnessed Franchouchou's unintentional reveal as zombies. We never see how they react to it, other than some brief surprise when the masks break off, or whether they bought the "zombie makeup" story.
  • Call-Back:
    • Junko uses her supplies from her doll-making job throughout the episode.
    • To cheer up some sad children, Lily performs her song from "Little Bodda Bope Saga".
    • The girls perform instrument-less versions of their songs like Mezame Returner.
    • Sakura and Kotaro's meeting at the end mirrors the same conversation they had a season ago, with Kotaro exclaiming that he'll never give up on Sakura.
  • The Cameo: Misa gives Kotaro a boat ride to the shelter.
  • Cassandra Truth: None of the children believe Franchouchou could be zombies - after all zombies are scary, not cute! - and continue to happily support the girls, something that deeply moves them.
  • Chekhov's Skill: Subverted. Junko puts her doll-making skills to use by fashioning clay masks to cover the girls' faces. But when they perform with them, they shatter due to not being given enough time to harden properly.
  • Children Are Innocent: Ever since the first episode of the series, it's been presumed that being exposed as zombies would put the girls in danger of being hunted down and killed. After all, most people would probably take them as the typical Hollywood Flesh-Eating Zombie. Franchouchou's audience of young children however not only disbelieves them to be zombies, but then warmly accepts them in spite of their undead appearances.
  • Double Take: Sakura has to double back to the mansion's window after realizing that they're adrift at sea.
  • From Bad to Worse: Not only do the girls have to worry about the storm aftermath, but there's also the chance of them being revealed as zombies to everyone at the shelter.
  • Internal Reveal: Franchouchou decides to reveal to a young audience that they're actually zombies, realizing it could terrify them or get themselves ostracized. However, it does nothing to deter the children's admiration for them - due to not believing they're zombies, since they're "scary" while the girls aren't - and they happily continue to perform through the night.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Kotaro when he and Jofuku are trapped in the bar by flood water.
    • The girls when the mansion collapses with all their belongings and make-up inside.
    • Lily when she has to rush in to stop Tae's disembodied head from wandering around.
    • The girls when Sakura's make-up begins to chip off.
    • Franchouchou when they're revealed as zombies to the children at the shelter.
  • Rude Awakening: Sakura is woken up by a combination of Tae chewing on her head in her sleep and being rocked around by the mansion floating in the sea.
  • Skewed Priorities:
    • Tae is off chasing seagulls on the roof.
    • Instead of grabbing important materials like their make-up or costumes, Junko grabs her doll making supplies from work.
  • Strange Minds Think Alike: When the girls are lost at sea and this exchange happens.
Lily: "Maybe we'll end up on a deserted island. Then we can go on an adventure!"
Saki: "Zombie survival, huh? Good thinking, Shrimpy!"
  • Trying Not to Cry: Ai is on the brink of Tears of Joy after being warmly accepted by the children in spite of being a zombie.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Some children play around with Tae's living, disembodied head. Lily has to step in before any of the adults see it.
  • Wham Shot:
    • Sakura opening the doors to the mansion, revealing that it's drifting in the sea.
      Sakura: [Audible shock]
    • Sakura's make-up beginning to chip away.
  • You Can't Go Home Again: The mansion is completely destroyed by the storm, with all of Franchouchou's belongings including costumes and make-up inside.
