The One With… a rather long-awaited explanation behind the grand failure of the EFS concert back in 2019. Also the one where Okoba finally gets his opportunity to boycott Franchouchou...
The first episode of a three-part finale arc for Revenge.
Tropes:
- Cliffhanger: Saga is hit by a massive storm that causes a blackout all across the prefecture. Because Saga is in danger, Jofuku is once again in a declining state.
- Dramatic Wind: As Kotaro's speech to Franchouchou grows more passionate, a dramatic wind somehow kicks up indoors, even knocking Tae away.
- Flashback: The first half of the episode is a flashback to the build-up to the disastrous EFS concert that caused Franchouchou's slump, and the immediate fallout.
- Hero Antagonist: Okoba becomes this to Kotaro, believing the latter is desecrating the dead with necromancy for fame and money.
- Oh, Crap!: Jofuku reels over in pain as a storm strikes Saga, completely incapacitating him.
- O.O.C. Is Serious Business: The girls are shocked to see Kotaro give a morning meeting that starts out surprisingly subdued, with him apologizing for last year's EFS fiasco.
- The Reveal:
- The venue EFS is the same stadium where Ai met her end, Best Amenity Stadium.
- The "time limit" Kotaro was worried about was a "cataclysmic threat" facing Saga prefecture. Furthermore, all the girls of Franchouchou and their deaths were tied to this prophecy.
- Well-Intentioned Extremist: Downplayed, but Okoba is willing to ruin Franchouchou because he believes Kotaro is exploiting the girls for fame and money, which is a desecration to their passings prior to their resurrections.
- Wham Episode: We learn everything leading up to the disastrous concert of last year, see Okoba confront Kotaro over his use of zombies as idols, along with having Jofuku's identity, immortality, and connection to Saga stated outright (along with Kotaro's connection to him). As it turns out, Saga is cursed to kill anyone who would bring Saga fame and fortune before their time, and Kotaro resurrected people killed by the curse in an attempt to bypass it - and all this time, it's been prophesized that at the start of the Reiwa era, the curse will cause Saga to undergo a disaster that will cause it to be forgotten. Finally, right before Okoba can send his story on the zombies for publication and a day before Franchouchou's revenge concert, the curse's disaster triggers: a blackout and a massive flood sweeps through Saga, taking the mansion where Franchouchou (un)live along with it.
- Wham Shot: A massive typhoon hits Saga, and Jofuku is left in a crippled state.
