Recap / Yu-Gi-Oh! VRAINS Ep 53 Bounty Hunter Blood Shepherd

Go To

Blood Shepherd challenges Playmaker to a Duel. He manages to figure out Playmaker's strategy, and proceeds to launch a combo with his Drone deck to overwhelm Playmaker and seal off his strategy.

This episode contains the following tropes:

  • Batman Gambit: Ghost Girl sent Shouichi the data about the Ignis code, knowing Playmaker would investigate and SOL Technology would focus on Playmaker, allowing her and Blue Girl to enter the restricted zone with minimal difficulty.
  • Blatant Lies: Invoked by Blood Shepherd in that, unlike other AIs in which they often make blatantly obvious statements, he makes his AI tell lies in order to catch Playmaker and Ai off guard.
  • Captain Obvious: Blood Shepherd's AI informs him that a second Monster was Summoned to a Monster Zone that Shootingcode Talker points to, thus allowing it to make three attacks during the same turn.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Blood Shepherd lies a lot in order to catch his opponent off guard. When trying to convince Playmaker to duel him, Blood Shepherd gives him to the count of three to decide. He then proceeds to open fire on the second count. Playmaker quickly realizes Blood Shepherd never said he wouldn't resume attacking before reaching three.
  • Duels Decide Everything: Inverted. In a flashback of Blood Shepherd, Zaizen, Ghost Girl's mission, they use weapons to fight a hacker instead of dueling.
  • Evolving Credits: In the ending Blue Angel appears in her "Blue Girl" outfit now.
  • It Only Works Once: Ai attempts to blow Blood Shepherd away with a Data Storm like he did in episode 47. Sadly, Blood Shepherd manages to foil this attempt by blasting the storm to pieces with his Arm Cannon.
  • The Reveal:
    • Aoi debuts her new avatar, Blue Girl.
    • Akira has asked Ghost Girl and Aoi to hunt for the Ignis behind SOL Technology's back, as Akira wishes to learn the Ignis's intentions and whether they view humanity as an enemy.
    • Ghost Girl is the one who sent Shouichi the information about an Ignis' possible location in the restricted zone.
  • Why Don't You Just Shoot Him?: Discussed Trope, despite Blood Shepherd taking several shots at him, Playmaker notes out that Blood Shepherd has to duel him, or he can't take possession of Ai.
