Go To

"A Tougher Nut and a Note on File" is an episode of Young Sheldon that first aired November 10, 2022.

Georgie and Mandy (Emily Osment) are going out to dinner at a fancy restaurant, when they run into Mandy's parents, Jim (Will Sasso) and Audrey (Rachel Bay Jones). Audrey immediately starts interrogating Georgie, and then she leaves, taking Jim with her. Connie later tells Georgie about how she was very mad at Mary after she got pregnant with him, but softened after he was born.

Georgie then goes to Jim's tire store to talk to him, but Audrey (who also works there) starts interrogating him again. Jim tells Georgie that he appreciates all that Georgie has done for Mandy, and that Georgie has taken an interest in the tire store (as Jim's son hasn't), but Audrey shuts him down. Mandy later finds out about Georgie talking to her parents, and is mad at him, especially after he told her about how she acts just like Audrey.

Jim later goes over to the Coopers' house to talk to Mary and George Sr., as Audrey won't let him support Mandy in any way. Mandy then sees his truck, and goes over to confront him. Jim then tells Mandy about how she can be just as stubborn as Audrey, and so she leaves.

Meanwhile, Sheldon is at the comic book store, and finds out that Missy sold a copy of a rare comic book, Doom Patrol and Suicide Squad Special #1, that was reserved for Sheldon (there was a note on file that Missy didn't read). Sheldon then discovers that his online friend Nathan (Steve Burns) has a copy of the comic book, and promises to give it to Sheldon in exchange for a copy of a different rare comic book.

Sheldon tries searching online for the comic book to give to Nathan, but he finds that the chatroom process is too inefficient. He then gets an idea to create an online database of comic books that people can search for; that night, he and Missy start the process of inputting comic books. Missy's there only because she was ordered by her supervisor to assist Sheldon.

However, Sheldon quickly discovers that the comic books in the store are very badly organized (at least by his exacting standards), so he needs to organize them. Missy then leaves because it will take too much time, so Sheldon invites Nathan over to help him. Sheldon and Nathan then start discussing other potential applications of Sheldon's database system, and Sheldon realizes that it could be used for scientific research grants, so he leaves to work on that. Nathan is now alone in the comic book store, and declares he's going to steal a lot of merchandise.

In The Tag, Sheldon talks to President Hagemeyer (Wendie Malick) about his research grant database idea, and she realizes that by charging an access fee for it, she can make a lot of money for the university.

Tropes

  • Call-Forward: Adult Sheldon describes having an incomplete collection as like having a bad itch he can't scratch, exactly how he described it in The Big Bang Theory episode "The Itchy Brain Simulation".
  • Like Mother, Like Daughter: Mandy is upset that Georgie brings up how much she's just like Audrey.
  • Previously on…: We're reminded that Mandy told Connie that Audrey and Jim weren't happy about their daughter being pregnant, and that they don't know that Georgie's not even 18-years-old yet. Also that Missy started working at the comic book store.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Missy leaves the comic book store once Sheldon decides to reorganize the inventory since it was more work than her supervisor assigned.
  • Wiki Walk: Sheldon was at first supposed to just catalog the comic books on the store, but he was dissatisfied with the way they were organized and decided to change that. Then when Nathan asks if his idea of an online database could be used for something other than comic books, Sheldon realizes that it could be used for scientific grants, and quickly leaves the store to sell the idea to the university, dropping the comic book database entirely.
