After David impresses everyone with the snow machine he's invented, a jealous Damont uses it on Wanda's garden in order to get David in trouble. Upon finding out who framed him, David seeks revenge, much like Edmond Dantès in The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas.
This is the first of two episodes to be based on a novel by Alexandre Dumas. It's followed by "Muttketeer," which adapted The Three Musketeers.note
Tropes
- Adapted Out: This happens to many, many characters, but the most notable omission is Villefort. The conspiracy against Edmond is thus pared down to Fernand, Danglars, and Caderousse.
- Apology Gift: As an apology for accidentally getting Wishbone covered in pink dye, David makes him a personalized vending machine that gives him a treat every time he presses the lever. Wishbone takes to it.
- Bowdlerize: Fernand isn't Driven to Suicide by his reputation being slandered.
- Clear My Name: In addition to taking revenge against Damont, David intends to clear his own name.
- Compressed Adaptation: The episode spends a bit too much time on the story's setup, forcing Danglars and Caderousse to become a case of What Happened to the Mouse? as Dantès' revenge is directed entirely against Fernand. This is even after removing Villefort entirely.
- Demoted to Extra:
- Danglars and Caderousse, since only the revenge against Fernand is shown. This is especially the case with Caderousse, who isn't even given any dialogue.
- At one point, Wishbone as the Count refers to a background servant as "Ali," which is the closest the episode comes to including him in the story.
- Denial of Animality: While he's being dragged to his cell, Wishbone as Edmond protests, "You've got the wrong man!"
- Frame-Up: Just as Edmond Dantès is framed as a Bonapartist, Damont frames David for using his snow machine on Wanda's garden.
- Hoist by Their Own Petard: After Damont uses David's snow machine to frame him for ruining Wanda's flowers, David returns the favor by filling the machine with food coloring instead of water, so that when Damont takes the Villain Ball and tries to frame him again, he gets covered in dye.
- The Scream: After Wishbone as Edmond is locked away in his cell, it cuts to an exterior shot of the Château d'If with his scream for Mercédès echoing.
- That Man Is Dead:Wishbone as Edmond: Innocent Edmond Dantès is dead. From this day forward, I am the Count of Monte Cristo.
- You Are Grounded!: David's punishment for supposedly using his snow machine on Wanda's garden. It's not quite fourteen years in the Château d'If, but then again, it is a whole week that he's grounded for.
- You Are Number 6:Wishbone as Edmond: Wait, don't you know who I am? I am Edmond Dantès, captain of the good ship Pharaon!
