Recap / WITCH Animated S 2 E 10

Go To

When the girls depart on vacations and leave Hay Lin alone, the Knights of Vengeance stage an attack to free Prince Phobos.

The episode contains the following tropes:

  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: Miranda fruitlessly pleads for mercy when Phobos turns her into a small spider.
  • Bait-and-Switch Comment: Phobos makes one in response to Miranda's question about Lord Cedric's fate before he takes his revenge on her.
Phobos: I suppose I should forgive his past transgressions as I've forgiven yours, my dear... except that I haven't forgiven yours, my dear!
  • Blatant Lies: When Phobos confronts Miranda about her smug act of leaving him imprisoned in the beginning of the season, she weakly tries to claim that it was all part of her plan to gather forces to finally free him.
  • Breaking Out the Boss: The Knights of Vengeance assault the Infinite City's dungeons, free Phobos and the Lurdens, and together with them, proceed to attack the castle to take down Elyon.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: The Knights of Vengeance arc ends in this episode with them imprisoned.
  • Exact Words: When Nerissa tells the Knights of Vengeance to seek revenge on Alborn and Miriadel for hiding Elyon from Phobos, Raythor tells her "We will show no mercy." After she has left, Raythor reveals that they'll strike at Elyon herself instead of Alborn and Miriadel specifically.
  • Forced Transformation: Phobos transforms Miranda into a tiny spider as revenge for not freeing him in the season's beginning.
  • Foreshadowing: Miranda hints to the relationship between her and Lord Cedric by asking Phobos in an uncertain tone what will be done about Cedric who's still in his weakened state.
  • Loophole Abuse: Nerissa has this down to an art form. She cannot take the Heart of Meridian from Elyon by force, so instead she must enact a long and calculated plan to get Elyon to willingly relinquish ownership of the Heart to her.
    • First Nerissa (as Trill) gives Elyon a jewel from her mother's crown, which slowly begins to siphon away Elyon's power, thereby turning it into the Heart of Meridian itself.
    • Next, she feeds Elyon false visions of her birth parents, making her hate them. As result, she throws away the jewel in grief and literally right into Nerissa's outstretched hand, thereby willingly giving it away.
    • And finally, Nerissa seals Elyon inside the jewel, making it impossible for her to take back possession of the Heart of Meridian.
  • Takes One to Kill One: When Miranda questions what chances the Knights have against Elyon, Raythor reveals that they'll free Phobos to even the odds.
Raythor: To conquer a Queen requires more than Knights. It requires... a Prince.
  • Wham Episode: A big one. The Knights of Vengeance are captured, "Trill" is revealed to be Nerissa, who has stolen Elyon's powers and imprisoned her in a jewel.
  • Wham Shot: "Trill" dropping her glamor to reveal she's really Nerissa.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: With Nerissa having managed to steal Elyon's power for herself, she's content to let the Knights of Vengeance rot in prison along with Phobos.
  • You Monster!: As Nerissa finishes gloating to Elyon on how she was her False Friend as "Trill" and intentionally gave her a poor impression about her parents to get her power as the Heart of Meridian, Elyon calls the sorceress a monster and lunges at her, only to suddenly find herself trapped inside her mother's jewel.
