Techdif talk about Meatballs, Noseflutes and Judith.

Tropes:

  • Actor Allusion: Gary and Chris telling Tom "You can't have a laptop!" when asking for something to write all their answers down.
  • Aerith and Bob: Discussed here when a man called Marcel Kebakko allegedly married... Judith. The fact their names are so different that you probably wouldn't make them up on the spot together is what convinces Tom that the story isn't "utter bollocks". However, the story turns out to have been false.
  • Cluster Bleep-Bomb: Gary after the first round, after disproving Tom and about Meatballs on a stick being a genuine Finnish food. It goes on for 20 seconds.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: This episode, being the first one recorded in the series, is a lot more freeform and has more pub-like-chat while Tom, Matt, Gary and Chris get used to the format and the rules. There's also no end-screen Signing Off Catchphrase either.
  • Epic Fail: Tom dismissed answers given by Gary and Matt each time based solely on what he apparently knows from having visited Finland. Both times he ruled them out immediately on that basis, and both times he was wrong to do so. Even more worryingly, while Gary's answer was ruled out because Tom had never heard of a local delicacy ("Meatballs on a stick"), he's more embarrassed and baffled by how he doesn't know what the Finnish word for "Airport" isnote , despite traveled to Helsinki by plane!
  • Know-Nothing Know-It-All: Tom "I've been to Finland" Scott. That's apparently all Tom needs to know in order to rule out both correct answers in this episode, much to his bemusement.
  • Wham Line:
    • Having ruled out Gary entirely, Tom guesses that Kebakko was Matt's article. He gets proven wrong, then turns to Chris...
Tom: So to be clear, everything that Matt said was a lie, none of that is factual?
      Matt: Yeah, correct, yeah.
      Tom: Chris?
      Chris: Also bulls***.
      Tom: Really?!
      Chris: Mmm-hmm.
[Tom then looks up at Gary with a very stunned expression]
      Gary: F*** YOU!
    • Matt (who he had also ruled out early) reveals what Lentokenttä means...
Matt: Lentokenttä, which, in English, means "airfield"...
[cue exasperation from Tom and everyone else laughing]
