Recap / Tiny Toons Looniversity S 1 E 8 Souffle Girl Hey

Go To

The eighth episode of Tiny Toons Looniversity.

Buster and Babs are excited to get jobs working alongside the school's chef, Lola Bunny, until they realize how hard it is to match her talent. Meanwhile, Plucky and Hamton are in charge of escorting Cool Cat, who's in charge of evaluating the school's coolness, and have to improvise when his modern and trendier son Chillest Cat arrives in his place.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Do-It-Yourself Plumbing Project: The reason Buster and Babs get jobs is to support their mom, whose attempt at fixing a leak at their home leads to the entire burrow being flooded.
  • It Was with You All Along: Plucky and Hamton struggle to appeal to Chillest Cat's view of what's "cool", and their attempts to portray the school as hip and trendy just make him doubt their integrity. It's only after Plucky gets on his knees and begs Chillest Cat not to destroy the school's reputation because of all the friends he's made there does Chillest Cat state that the coolest thing of all is true friendship.
  • Lethal Chef: Babs and Buster's attempts to follow Lola's recipes all end in disaster, with ingredients shriveling or busting into flames within moments. It's only at the end, when they follow Lola's advice to (metaphorically) put a bit of themselves into their cooking and make an old family carrot dish, that they make something delicious. Even then, Chillest Cat admits that he's not a fan of vegetables when he tries it, though Lola herself later tastes and is amazed by it.
  • Literal Metaphor: Babs and Buster's mom uses the money they sent her to fix the leak... by stuffing the bills into the crack on the wall.
  • Massive Numbered Siblings: It is revealed during a phone call from their mother that Buster and Babs have 86 brothers and sisters.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Buster and Babs' Mom flooding her burrow in her own attempted DIY project may remind viewers of when Bugs flooded his house trying to put up a shelf for his Nobel Prize in The Looney Tunes Show episode, "The Shelf".
    • Buster wears a shirt with a picture of Bugs dressed as a king from "Rabbit Hood".
  • Ocular Gushers:
    • When Lola brushes off how she's never been accepted for Top Hat Chef despite it being her dream, Hammer breaks out into tears that flood the kitchen, with Buster and Babs unable to tell the laughs from the cries.
    • When he's afraid that the school's going to be shut down for not meeting "cool" standards, Plucky breaks out into tears and begs Chillest Cat to reconsider, even admitting that he's made true friends with people like Buster. The display of friendship and loves ends up moving Chillest Cat enough to rate the school at top coolness.
  • Supreme Chef: Lola's cooking is radical, incorporating stunts like moving a lemon to tears with music in order to produce enough zest to grind a skateboard on, and is regarded highly by everyone that's eaten at the cafeteria.
  • Totem Pole Trench: One of Plucky and Hamton's attempts to impress Chillest Cat involves them turning the Loo Bru into a cool hangout, and having one of its customers being two penguins stacked on top of each other in a trenchcoat, with a blue boy penguin on top and a purple girl penguin on the bottom. Chillest Cat catches onto their plan when the Loo Bru falls apart.
