Recap / The Suite Life Of Zack And Cody S 1 E 17 Rock Star In The House

Go To

Jesse McCartney and his band are rehearsing in the hotel's basement, so London and Maddie disguise themselves as waitresses to meet them.

Tropes:

  • As Himself: Jesse McCartney
  • Attractive Bent-Gender: Maddie and London could pass themselves off as pretty male waiters.
  • Delayed Reaction: When Jesse McCartney asks London where the manager's office is and she points where it is. Without realizing who he is. After Maddie points this out to her, she faints.
  • Disguised in Drag: Maddie and London disguise themselves as male waiters just to sneak into a acoustic McCartney's soundcheck concert.
  • Even the Guys Want Him: Mr. Moseby and McCartney's acoustic guitarist think this is the case when they see two male waiters (actually London and Maddie in disguise) excited over McCartney singing "Beautiful Soul".
  • Ironic Echo: Played for Laughs. When Carey learns the singer visiting the Tipton Hotel is someone named "McCartney", she cheers "I LOVE PAUL MCCARTNEY!!" To this, the twins wonder "Who's he?" Carey can only give her boys a disbelieving look that they wouldn't know about the singer. To this, Mr. Moseby corrects "Not Paul McCartney, Jesse McCartney." Now it's Carey's turn to confusedly wonder "Who's he?"
  • Mistaken for Gay: London and Maddie geeking out over "Beautiful Soul" while still disguised as male waiters.
  • Not So Above It All: Carey finds it laughable how girls get so hyped up over boy bands. But when Mr. Moseby mentions the band's singer is "some McCartney fellow", she gasps "Paul McCartney... I LOVE PAUL MCCARTNEY!!"
  • Pretty Boy: Jesse McCartney, the titular rock star. Lampshade by Zack (and himself):
Zack: If you like video games, come back to my house and I'll crush you like the pretty boy that you are.
Jesse: You're on. And that's Mr. Pretty boy to you.
  • Rearrange the Song: The episode ends with a more poppy rearrangement of the theme song, mashing it up with a version of McCartney's "Beautiful Soul".
