Chapter 8: A Photo, A Box and A Mirror

The girls begin 8th grade planning for several events.

Actually Pretty Funny: One of the coming out stories Luz looked up got a chuckle out of her. It goes as such: "One particularly funny story had a parent reply to their son coming out as gay by responding, "Oh come on I don't care about that, I thought you were going to tell me you were a Republican!"
Bilingual Bonus: The last line of the chapter, as spoken by Luz looking in a mirror, is "Yo soy una chica fuerte, no importa lo que alguien dice de ti!", meaning "I am a strong girl, no matter what someone says about you!"
The Cameo: Maggie appears, as Sasha asks her to take a photo of her and her friends.
Change the Uncomfortable Subject: Anne attempts to comfort Luz so she can talk about her feelings but unknowingly makes her more nervous so Luz is glad when Marcy arrives to talk about creepy-pastas.
Coming-Out Story: Luz did research and found several of these online in order to figure out her recent feelings for Anne. She eventually realizes she's bisexual since she's always been attracted to guys up until now.
Crush Blush: Luz's cheeks go red because of Anne grabbing her hand and spinning her. She blushes again when Anne calls her sweet for wanting to get her a birthday present.
Foreshadowing: Marcy finds a creey-pasta about a cursed treasure box and considers getting it as a birthday present to Anne.
Shout-Out:
- When Luz is taking a picture of her, Anne says "Don't make me look ugly," and Luz quietly says "That would be impossible." This is the first cinematic moment between Mary Jane Watson and Peter Parker in Spider-Man.
- Luz compares the creepy-pasta about the cursed treasure box to something out of an episode of The Twilight Zone.
Time Skip: Two weeks have passed since the events of the last chapter, picking up on the night before the girls' first day of school.
Twirl of Love: An unintentional case. Anne spins Luz around after high-fiving her, which causes Luz to blush.
