Chapter 38: The Fourth Temple

As the Human trio and the Plantars enter the final temple, they're caught up by two familiar faces.

Tropes That Appear In This Chapter:

  • Breather Episode: Compared to the other temple-focused chapters, this one has little to no action.
  • Call-Back: The events of "Dance of Romance", Sasha's Story" and "The Battle of Tadpole Pond!" are brought up several times.
  • Crazy-Prepared: To counter the heat of the temple, Luz brought a potion that keeps the drinker cool in hot environments. She gives it to the Plantars so they can stay hydrated.
  • Crush Blush: Anne and Luz share a moment that causes them to turn away with their faces bright red.
  • For Want Of A Nail: After Luz leaves the temple, Anne and Sprig go after her, thus omitting them from the rest of the trials. So instead of Anne, it was Marcy who gave Sasha encouragement.
  • Held Gaze: Anne and Luz share one after their talk, holding hands and staring into each other's eyes.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Sasha and Grime meet up with Anne's party at the temple of strength, Sasha clears the trials and the group recharges the pink gem with Marcy telling them to wait until they bring the box to King Andrias before using it. The Human/Plantar party are also unaware of Sasha and Grime's plan to bring them to Newtopia to begin their rebellion.
  • Internal Reveal: Everyone discovers that Luz has lost her Calamity powers, but assume they're not working.
  • Not Helping Your Case: Not only does Sasha fail to sound apologetic when Luz accuses her of enjoying hurting Uodeela, Grime tries to defend himself by reminding Luz that Uodeela was stealing from his soldiers. This provokes Luz into attacking them.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: While Anne and Luz are outside, the rest of the group completes the trials.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: Luz repeatedly brings up Tadpole Pond, having the image of Grime cutting off Uodeela's tail as Sasha did nothing but watch with a sadistic grin burned into her memory.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Everyone's come to know Luz as always being sweet and eternally accepting, so to see her consumed by fury and declaring her hatred towards Sasha and Grime is very surprising and concerning.
  • Ship Tease: Anne and Luz stack up a lot of points:
    • Anne holds Luz's hands while voicing her appreciation for Luz getting along with her frog family and they share a Held Gaze that leaves them blushing.
    • When everyone sans Anne is about to be attacked by a lava worm, Anne shouts Luz's name.
    • After Luz runs out of the temple near-panicking upon seeing her powers aren't working, Anne goes to check on her with Sprig joining her.
  • Suddenly Shouting: As Luz gives her Tranquil Fury-induced beration to Sasha, she yells the last part of her statement, causing Anne and Marcy to flinch.
  • Sure, Let's Go with That: Luz thinks that Grime and Sasha went to her, Anne, Marcy, and the Plantars because they have nowhere else to go, which Sasha goes with.
  • Tranquil Fury: After hearing Sasha's "apology", Luz starts to speak in a cold tone that builds to a calm one dripping with rage before blowing up at Sasha.
  • Wham Episode: Luz discovers her powers are gone, but everyone thinks that they're not working. Sasha and Grime join the Human/Plantar party and clear the fourth temple, recharging the pink gem. But despite knowing Luz might not have her powers anymore, Grime tells Sasha they can't stop the part of their plan to have Beatrix fight Luz. And Sasha's confirmed to have a crush on Anne, with the voice suggesting she send Luz to another world so Sasha can have Anne all to herself.
