Recap / The Omnitrix Hero S 4 E 6 Love Lost

Go To

Devious and Chrysalis unleash an anti-love potion on Canterlot, turning everyone against the one they love the most against each other in an attempt to cut off Trixie from any help from her friends. This also causes some revelations in the relationships between Flash and Adagio as well as Twilight and Timber.

  • Better as Friends: Flash and Adagio ends up deciding this.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Devious and Chrysalis are stopped from getting Trixie's Medallions, thanks in part to her gaining the ability to perform solid illusions, and the town is cured from their Hate Plague. The experience though has shown Flash and Adagio that they don't love each other and they decide to break up, agreeing to still be friends, leading to Twilight deciding to break up with Timber. Also, Devious and Chrysalis are revealed to be working with a mysterious partner now, who has succeeded in their own goal thanks to their distraction.
  • Death Glare: Timber shoots a glare at Flurry after she bites his finger.
  • Dramatically Missing the Point: It has been said throughout the series that it is better for couples to have their differences rather than being Too Much Alike. When Timber sees how Shining and Cadance are so good together as a couple despite being so different, he arrogantly believes he and Twilight must have an even better relationship due to them having so much in common.
  • Fingore: A very mild example. When Timber tries to tickle Flurry's cheeks, she bites his finger with an impressively tight grip, only letting go once Flash pats her on the back. Timber checks it fast to make sure it isn't bleeding.
  • Foreshadowing: It is explained how the Hate Plague causes anyone affected by it to hate whoever they love the most, whether it is their significant other, a best friend, or a family member. However, despite being affected by it, Twilight does not start yelling at Timber in anger, even when he does with her, and Flash and Adagio don't feel any different about each other through the whole thing. This foreshadows how they are not the most important person in each other's lives, and their break ups.
  • Hate Plague: This is the main plan Devious and Chrysalis use in this chapter. Using a combination of Devious' magic and some science chemicals, he and Chrysalis create an "anti-love potion" that turns whoever is affected by it against the one they love the most. Their feelings towards anyone else though remain unchanged. Twilight is able to create a cure for it after examining the powder scattered by it.
  • The "I Love You" Stigma: A more healthy version happens between Flash and Adagio. When Adagio talks about how they weren't affected by the magic powder, still feeling the same way they always do about each other, she thinks about all they have been through together and asks Flash if he loves her, promising to not be hurt either way and just wanting him to be honest. Flash ultimately says he doesn't love Adagio despite caring about her, and she feels the same way about him. The two decide it is for the best if they break up, since they shouldn't stay together if nothing will happen between them.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: When the magic powder from the Hate Plague is unleashed, it first affects Timber, causing him to lash out at Twilight for always ignoring him, to her confusion. This is then followed by Cadance and Shining Armor shouting at each other and getting violent.
  • Out-of-Character Moment: Everyone is shocked when Flurry Heart, who is usually a Cheerful Child, gets fussy and violent with Adagio and Timber when they get near her, trying to hit Adagio when she tries to hold her and biting Timber's finger when he tries to tickle her cheek. It is implied she doesn't like the two of because of them dating her Auntie Twilight and Honorary Uncle Flash.
  • The Reveal: Flash's last new alien unlocked by his future self is Gyrotor, a Mephitiosus Gyroid.
  • Something We Forgot: Twilight locks Timber in a kitchen pantry to get some quiet from him screaming in her face so she can study the magic powder. After everything is taken care of and the city has been cured, she can't help but feel she has forgotten something, until she hears some banging and realizes she forgot about Timber still locked inside, and runs off to make one more batch of cure for him.
  • Test Kiss: Downplayed between Flash and Adagio. The two decide they are Better as Friends after realizing they don't love each other after everything they've been through, and after sharing a hug, Flash gives Adagio one final kiss on the lips. As soon as their lips meet they can tell they made the right decision, since even though the kiss is warm they feel no spark from it.
  • Took a Level in Badass: While fighting Devious and Chrysalis, Trixie casts her very first solid illusion, allowing her to briefly gain the upper hand against them long enough for Shining to arrive and help her.
  • Wham Episode: Flash and Adagio break up after dating for two seasons, which also convinces Twilight to finally break up with Timber. Also, Devious and Chrysalis are revealed to now be working for a mysterious partner, the same as a few other villains.
  • Xanatos Gambit: This is ultimately what the Devious and Chrysalis accomplish with their plan. The best case scenario for them is that Trixie is left without any help from her friends due to their Hate Plague, allowing them to defeat her and steal her Medallions. Though they fail in this, the final scene reveals that their whole plan was really a distraction for their mysterious new partner, who was able to steal what they needed unopposed thanks to them.
