This review contains examples of:

  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Easily the most one-sided "Old vs. New" episode the Critic's done thus far, with only the Special Effects Evolution of the newer version and Tim Burton being a more visually stylish director than Mel Stuart preventing Willy Wonka from scoring a clean sweep. The only other comparison to end in a 4-1 victory was True Grit, and even then it was more a case of the newer version being slightly better in just about all the major areas, as opposed to this one, where Charlie doesn't even come close to Willy Wonka in the categories it loses.
  • Foregone Conclusion: From the very start of the episode the Critic doesn't even try to hide the fact that Charlie is going to lose this battle, badly. Doug later confirmed that he only really did the episode in this format because the film was made after the cut-off date he had in place at the time, and even then he admitted it wasn't quite bad enough to merit a full review.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!: The root of all of the Critic's complaints about Charlie, with Willy Wonka now being a blatant Michael Jackson Expy, Charlie being annoyingly sanctimonious, the other kids being pointlessly changed and the rest of the cast unmemorable, the new songs just being flat-out terrible in his opinion, and the screenplay reverting changes from Willy Wonka that actually improved the story, while making extra changes that are pointless.invoked
