Recap / The Mask S 2 E 12 Boogie With The Man

Go To

A Deal with the Devil episode where Stanley inadvertently signs a deal with a handsome devil named Bob who promises him good fortune in exchange for his soul.

Tropes:

  • An Aesop: Always read the terms and conditions before signing a contract otherwise you could be signing up for something you didn't expect to happen.
  • Affably Evil: Bob is very friendly and polite towards Stanley even telling him that there's a loophole in the contract.
  • Deal with the Devil: Stanley makes one with him who prefers to be called Bob which for him is very foolish since Bub came out of nowhere with him saying he has ways to make him rich and, that Stanley should have saw that something was not right.
  • Fate Worse than Death: When the Mask first arrives in Hell he actually begins to think the place isn't bad at first but changes his mind after discovering that there is nothing to watch on TV except for day time talk shows including men dressing up in drag, that he has to wear polyesters and the only food available is liver, lima beans & rice cakes which Mask finds disgusting. He even lampshades this by saying it is too horrible to bear.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Stanley begging to Bob to free him from the contract which actually does get him to tell him there is a way out because he can see even for him Stanley is harmless so he decide to go easy on him.
  • Good Angel, Bad Angel: When Stanley finally gets Peggy to sign the contract both sides of The Mask appear with one side being the white angel that represents The Mask's morals and good-hearted nature to do the right thing while the red devil also represents The Mask's willingness, love and care about Stanley even to the point of having to sacrifice other people to save him but the white angel wins and, Stanley stops Peggy from signing it then decide to bring The Mask out so that he can deal with Bub his way instead.
  • Idiot Ball: Stanley actually signs the contract Bob offered him without even reading the terms and conditions. Had Stanley done so he might not have got himself in a pickle later in the episode.
  • Read the Fine Print: While Stanley fails this due to his desperation, everyone else who read his contract are smart enough to look at the fine print.
  • Shipper on Deck: The Mask tries to set Stanley up with a woman who agrees to go on a date if he wins at the roulette wheel, which backfires when Stanley loses.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: The Mask as usual changes his appearance such as a Mexican Musician, a cowboy with a poncho, Maradjah, another cowboy with a mustache, terminator, a tourist in a brown shirt, a waiter, a stage actor and a cossack. Later on while dancing with Bob the Devil he changes into three different forms of dancer such as a polish one, a exotic one and a cancan white one.
