Recap / The Ghost And Molly Mc Gee S 2 E 24 Davenports In Demise

Go To

Bizmart has managed to find a place to start their newest supermarket, putting Davenport's out of business. Having based her streams, future and identity around the shop, Andrea feels lost, so Molly suggests a "rebrand" that soon does more harm than good. Meanwhile, Scratch sets out to prove to his peers that he has a "rock 'n roll" personality... something they vehemently disagree with.

Tropes:

  • An Aesop: The best way to win others over is being yourself.
  • Be Yourself: What Andrea learns by the end of the episode; her attempts to "rebrand" herself ended poorly and cost her a lot of followers, but she ultimately begins reclaiming her fame one step at a time just by showing her soft, vulnerable and, most importantly, real self.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Although Davenport's went out of business thanks to Bizmart, Andrea was able to learn that the best way to win others is to be herself.
  • Brutal Honesty: With the exception of Geoff, no one holds back in telling Scratch that his personality is nowhere as "rock 'n roll" as he thinks. Even Jeff flat out admits that Scratch isn't much "rock 'n roll" as he is "soft rock".
  • Call-Back:
    • The threat of Bizmart moving into Brighton and putting Davenport's department store out of business was first raised at the end of "Davenport's On Demand", and here it comes true.
    • The selfie of Andrea and Molly with puppy filters taken in "A Period Piece" is shown in the thumbnails of one of Andrea's MeTube videos.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: After struggling to be liked by her fans, Andrea was able to gain more subscribers after her viewers saw Andrea showing her true self.
  • Is This Thing Still On?: Molly's phone was still recording when Andrea breaks down. Molly is mortified, but then the video starts getting likes due to showing Andrea's true self.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Mr. Davenport's philosophy about 'big fish' eating 'little fish' from "Davenport's on Demand" comes back to bite him when his own business gets eaten by a 'bigger fish'.
  • Loophole Abuse: Mayor Brunson bans Bizmart from building a new store in Brighton... so instead they build a new store just 8 inches outside of Brighton.
  • Nothing Is the Same Anymore: Bizmart opens in Brighton and puts Davenport’s out of business, which causes Andrea and her family to lose a serious chunk of their fortune and the influence that came with being a rich family.
  • Queer Establishing Moment: As part of her longterm plans, Andrea planned to marry another girl named Alina Webster whose family also owns a department store.
  • Riches to Rags: All in the span of one episode, Andrea has gone from the only daughter of Brighton’s richest family and the heir to their superstore throne to a Fallen Princess with no family store or legacy to inherit and struggling to find her identity.
  • Sanity Slippage: Andrea eventually has one as she gets more and more desperate to find an identity for herself that works.
  • Spit Take: Sharon spits coffee right on Scratch's face after he asks her if she thinks he's "rock 'n roll".
  • Take That!: One of the comments on Andrea's video told her a ferret could be hers in just three clicks. After seeing that comment, Andrea proceeds to delete it since it was a bot.
  • Wingding Pupils: When she finds out that she's losing followers, Andrea's eyes turn into down arrows and then shatter.
  • Wrong Song Gag: Scratch bumps the jukebox to play a rock 'n roll song, but it plays a slow, light song instead.
