Recap / The Boondocks - S4 E10: "The New Black"

Go To

"The New Black" is the last episode of The Boondocks ever aired.

Riley invokes the wrath of LGBT rights activists for making homophobic insults, and drags his family down into hot water. Robert's attempts to correct this only draw in the wrath of activists for the mentally challenged!

Tropes

  • Blatant Lies: Riley (angrily) states that he was not bullying that homosexual student who was twerking on top of the cafeteria table. His exact words? "Nigga, cut that out! That's gay!"
  • Bullying a Dragon: Both Riley and Robert for aggravating Slowlove by offending people with mental disability.
  • Call-Back: Huey reminds Riley of all the times he used "gay" as an insult, whether or not someone or something is truly gay.
  • Chased Off into the Sunset: Riley at the end by the mentally disabled.
  • Dope Slap: Huey ends up giving Riley one of these to prevent him from saying the word reta- *smack*
  • Equal-Opportunity Offender: While episode clearly makes fun of Riley for his homophobia, there is plenty of jokes at expense of LGBT community, represented by "Yes Homo". Both "Yes Homo" and "S.A.A.A.D." (the mentally challenged organisation) are presented as corrupted, only looking for ways to exploit Riley's controversy.
  • From Bad to Worse: As Riley angers the LGBT community, Robert calling Riley "special" only draws the ire of the mentally challenged thus doubling the number of people angry with the Freemans.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Riley made the mistake of arrogantly offending the mentally challenged track runners, who then proceeded to stomp him repeatedly before chasing him to inflict more bodily harm.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Goodlove mentions how the word, “nigga” is recently allowed on television, but other swear words such as “fag” get censored. He demonstrates this by alternating both words, complete with bleeping sound effects for the latter. Riley remarks, “Thank God for uncensored DVDs.” Both words are indeed uncensored on DVD.
  • Never My Fault: Riley makes no attempt at all to apologize for his reprehensible behavior. Matter of fact, he lashes out and has a meltdown over all this negative paparazzi surrounding him. A lot of the problems he had could have been avoided if he had just simply apologized, but Riley had to be a prideful arrogant moron.
  • No Ending: No resolution is ever made to Riley's troubles.
  • Politically Incorrect Villain: Riley keeps drawing crowds of hate upon himself for his distasteful vocabulary at the LGBT community and then the mentally disabled.
  • Yo Yo Plot Point: The season 2 episode "The S-Word" had a white teacher get in trouble for calling Riley "nigga". In this episode, Riley gets in trouble for calling a kid's dance "gay".
