Directed by: Johnny Castuciano

Written by: Ben Acker & Ben Blacker

It's Kid Pickles' birthday, and determined to give him a birthday he'll enjoy for once, Puss and Dulcinea make Kid Pickles King of San Lorenzo for the day, but the power goes to his head and he creates a pickle golem army to make his rule eternal.

Tropes:

  • An Aesop: Parodied. While Kid Pickles does learn a lesson, Puss blows off the big moment because they have plot to go deal with.
Puss (all said very quickly): "Yes, yes. All is forgiven and some sort of lesson has been learned. Perhaps something about teamwork! Now, we must hurry!"
  • Acquired Situational Narcissism: A "having fun" montage shows Kid Pickles letting the power get more and more to his head the more he's King, until he's doing things that are outright mean-spirited.
  • Birthday Episode
  • Birthday Hater: As an orphan, Kid Pickles' birthdays generally aren't that great to begin with, but even getting cake and sweets doesn't appeal to him because all he likes is pickles, and nobody has ever given him a gift he likes because all he likes is pickles.
  • Chew-Out Fake-Out: When he finds out the truth, Kid Pickles looks like he's going to call them out for lying to him... but then it turns out he's overjoyed that they would do something that crazy just to make him happy. And then he realizes that he repaid them by raising and army and throwing them in jail.
  • Evil Is Not a Toy: Turns out once you get dark magical monsters to start destroying stuff, it's rather hard to get them to stop no matter how loyal they were before. Pickles learns this the hard way when he tries to call off the attack on the Mole People.
  • The Caligula: "King" Pickles, though it was all in good fun until he actually started trying to enforce it.
  • Kubrick Stare: Pickles gets a lot of these when he starts going Caligula, particularly when he barges into Artephius' shop.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Pickles, upon learning that he was never actually King, that his friends put it all together just to give him a fun birthday, and that all he's done in return is treat them terribly.
  • My New Gift Is Lame: Since the orphans are poor, none of Kid Pickles' birthday presents have ever been particularly good. The topper being the time Senora Zapata gave him a broom... with which she expected him to sweep the whole orphanage.
  • The Paranoiac: "King" Pickles starts to believe everyone is out to get him, and conjures up an army of pickle monsters with black magic he thinks he can trust instead. Ironically, he can't.
Pickles: "Puss thinks he can take my kingdom away! They all do!" <Kubrick Stare> "That's never going to happen..."
  • Poor Communication Kills: As part of his birthday present, Kid Pickles doesn't know that he's not actually King. So when he overhears Puss and Dulcinea talking about ending the game the next day, he assumes his closest friends are betraying him. At first he's heartbroken, but then comes the paranoia.
