The Warden attempts to join in Superjail's new magic show with his dummy "Prison Peedee", but finds himself overlooked in favor of Jared, who's managed to become a successful magician. After Peedee comes to life by a spell, the Warden and Jared wind up thrilled by their success with magic, but it seems that it's Peedee who's trying to pull all the strings...

"Uh-Oh, It's Magic" contains examples of:

  • Butt-Monkey: Rather than it being only Jared to be manipulated, the Warden winds up mistreated by Peedee and subjected to various humiliating acts, for the inmates' entertainment and particularly for Gary and Bird, who are controlling the Peedee puppet.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: Gary seems to be rather prominent, and Bird vanishes during the library scene. Jared eventually notices something's up.
  • Continuity Nod: The red-haired "Insane Clown Posse"-themed inmate from "Cold-Blooded" makes a reappearance, to mock the Warden's puppet.
    • Redneck (from "Superbar", last seen in a cameo in "Superfail") is seen among the inmates that are helping Peedee pilot the giant mecha version of himself. However, he's also later seen in the crowd congratulating the Warden and Jared for their defeat of Peedee.
    • The bored duo, as well as the pale inmate from "Mr. Grumpy-Pants", are among the crowd that cheers on the giant Peedee mecha for destroying the jail walls. The first two are then seen in the later crowd of inmates that cheer on the Warden and Jared.
  • Demonic Dummy: Peedee, seemingly. Subverted at the end with it being revealed Gary was throwing his voice and that Bird was controlling Peedee. However, there's the matter of Gary's mysterious vocal cords...
  • Driven to Suicide: Two of the inmates are driven to killing themselves at the idea of having to listen to the Warden's awful comedy act.
  • "Everybody Laughs" Ending: With a Laugh Track even added. The episode ends this way with the staff, at first. Then there's that last bit with the rats.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: Combined with a very brief case of Funny Background Event. When the Warden and Jared fall and drift back down into the Warden's office, the Twins ride by on a flying bike (with a brief snippet of their techno beat).
    • Ash seems to like pop-up books related to fire, while Nicky can be seen sneaking a peek at porn in the library.
    • When the Warden and Jared first appear to kill inmates with magic, a quick zoom-in to the Peedee mecha briefly shows Gary watching the chaos with a rather diabolical, toothy grin. Although it's very quick, and the main focus is on Peedee and Bird.
    • As the Peedee mecha falls apart and there's a quick zoom-in to Peedee's or rather, Bird's reaction, Jean and Paul can be seen clinging to each other in fear. In the same brief shot, Ash is busy playing with a bunny on top of his head, while Gary has an open-mouthed, horrified expression.
  • Off the Wagon: Although Jared used magic to try to rid himself of his alcoholism, he falls right back into an alcohol and cocaine habit when his fame gets to his head.
  • Sequel Hook: "You haven't heard the last of Gary!". Those rats sure seem to be planning something.
  • Sigil Spam: As to be expected with the rest of Superjail, the Warden's talent show building is decorated with imagery of him and pictures of his face. The library follows along the same theme, with Warden-faced lion statues.
  • The Stinger: After the credits, there's a brief repeat of the shot of Jared appearing and disappearing in a puff of smoke.
  • Stock Footage: The numerous flying Mrs Whatsit-esque creatures are recycled animation from "Superfail" (which was produced just before this episode was), right down to the odd purple creature with six wings.
    • The yellow explosions that kill inmates during the Peedee mecha battle were recycled animation from "Sticky Discharge" (which was also produced before this one).
  • Temporary Bulk Change: Jailbot inflates Jacknife like a balloon, but then proceeds to stretch his body out- all for the purpose of breaking his limbs and contorting him into an animal balloon shape for kids.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: Jared comes off quite lucky in this episode, what with being successful at magic and getting to work together with the Warden.
  • Tuckerization: Prison Peedee is named after Peedee Shindell, producer for seasons 2 and on. His appearance is also modeled after him.
