Go To

Tenth Sonic the Hedgehog (SatAM) episode in release order, after "Sonic's Nightmare" and followed by "Sub Sonic".

The Freedom Fighters find themselves defending an underground city of Mobian refugees, all the while coming to terms with their own personal relationships.

Tropes appearing in this episode:

  • Cock Fight: Griff actually has no interest in Sally; he just wants to sweet-talk her to ensure he gets invited to visit Knothole. However, Sonic and Antoine react by trying to outdo Griff and subsequently start fighting with each other (much to Sally's embarrassment).
  • Freudian Excuse Is No Excuse: Griff steals the Power Rock that creates the Freedom Fighters' Power Rings in order to keep Lower Mobius' generator running, pointing out that without it, they couldn't survive down there. Sonic sympathizes, but still tells Griff in no uncertain terms that it did not justify him stealing from them in the first place.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Sonic and Antoine are jealous of Griff hitting on Sally. Naturally, they try to outdo him. And each other.
  • Hypocrite: Griff finds out about the Freedom Fighters' power ring source. He declines a comrade's suggestion to ask for their help since he believes they can't be trusted, so instead starts an elaborate plan to trick Sally and steal it from them instead.
  • Is the Answer to This Question "Yes"?: Sonic makes use of this: "Is grass green? Is water wet? Do bears hibernate?". In one instance, Sonic was cut off just before the word "hibernate", which makes one wonder if that time they meant to evoke a different question involving bears.
  • Right for the Wrong Reasons: Sonic and Antoine take a great dislike to Griff once he starts hitting on Sally. Their insistence that Griff can't be trusted is based purely on jealousy, but by this point, he was plotting to steal from them.
  • Rodents of Unusual Size: The Freedom Fighters encounter Ratbots in the underground. Griff says they are a regular threat to his community, with the usual strategy to just seal up the structures and wait for them to leave.
  • Toilet Humour: A very subtle but clever example occurs, with Sally cutting Sonic off just before he recites a famous rhetorical question; for those not versed in English idioms, he was about to ask if bears shit in the woods.
Sonic: Sal, is the sky blue? Is dirt dirty? Do bears-
    Sally: Sorry I asked.
  • Underground City: The Freedom Fighters discover an underground city of the "Apocalypse Bunker" sort directly below Robotropolis. Called Lower Mobius, it is populated by surviving Mobians who are hiding from Robotnik and his army.
  • You Are Not Alone: Giving Griff a chunk of the Power Rock, Sonic reminds him they're all in the fight against Robotnik together and can rely on each other.
