As the battle against Nine continues, a friend of Sonic makes a big return.
Tropes:
- Big Badass Battle Sequence: The battle that started in the previous episode continues and seemingly concludes here.
- Big Damn Heroes: Shadow saves Sonic from a Grim Sonic replica just before the latter could knock the former out for good.
- Bottle Episode: Like the previous episode, this one takes place entirely in the Grim.
- The Bus Came Back: After being absent since the season premiere, Shadow makes his return in this episode.
- Darkest Hour: The episode ends with Nine's robot army seemingly defeating Sonic's friends and allies for good, with an enraged Sonic plowing past the Alpha Grim robots and directly engaging with Nine.
- Internal Reveal: The audience previously saw Nine create new Grim Bots of Birdle from the damaged one that came back. When Sonic meets Shadow again, the black hedgehog reveals why and how: Nine apparently needs to keep the main Bots, or "Alphas", active to copy as much as he needs. If they can destroy the Alphas of each Grim Bot (that scarred Birdle, for example), their copies will all disappear for good.
- Noodle Implements: When Prim asks how are they going to get past some robots without drawing attention, Gnarly says he has a plan; all he needs is a vine, four rocks... and a time machine.
- Skewed Priorities: The Chaos Council (sans Mr. Dr. Eggman) bemoan the loss of every-day items, of all things, upon their mothership's destruction.
- Unspoken Plan Guarantee:
- The fact that Rebel Rouge's plan (elaborated in the previous episode) averted this trope doomed it to fail.
- After that plan fails, Sonic then tells his friends and allies a new plan which the audience doesn't get to hear. It seemingly fails as well, given the way the episode ends.
- Wave-Motion Gun:
- The Chaos Council's mothership fires one to destroy the giant Big the Cat robot for good.
- In return, Nine fires a massive beam of prismatic energy at the Chaos Council's mothership, completely wrecking it as well and forcing Mr. Dr. Eggman to jump ship.
