Mordecai is left to ponder over his feelings towards C.J. after he sends her an auto-corrected text message saying that he likes her.

Tropes

  • Armor-Piercing Question: A variant, but it has the same effect "You'd rather float into an endless void than talk about your problems?"
  • Auto-Incorrect: Mordecai is texting CJ that he likes Yuji, but the autocorrect causes the sent message to be "I like you hi". He tried to cancel the message since he wasn't ready to start a relationship with CJ due to still missing Margaret. Yuji himself complains that the autocorrect always changes his name to "You Hi".
  • Bowdlerization: In the UK, Yuji's line "And that was the day I lost my innocence...at making coffee! Not at making out with girls! I did that WAY earlier... TO THE EXTREME!" was edited to change "making out" with "hanging out."
  • Call-Back: The Phone Guardians have not forgotten Mordecai's first offense from Butt Dial and he won't be getting off easy the next time.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • The Smoke Signal still has the same exact solution
      Smoke Signal: BURN THEM!
    • High-Five Ghost's advice is "you may have to wait four years but....", calling back to his relationship with Celia in The Postcard.
    • When Muscle Man calls CJ with Mordecai's phone, she calls him "Mordecool."
    • Apparently, it was thought that Mordecai had finally learned to let go of Margaret and his past with her, but that apparently was not the case as revealed in this episode. Mordecai likes C.J., that much is true, however Mordecai reveals that he is still clinging onto that hopeless outcome of Margaret ditching college and coming back to him, which is why he would've rather floated into the abyss to run away from his problems at first.
  • Embarrassing Tattoo: Yuji's tattoo on his back was supposed to be his name but because his name got auto-corrected so his tattoo is "You Hi".
  • Everyone Can See It:
Mordecai: I really do like CJ...
    Rigby: Pffft. Duh you do.
  • Fan Hater: Inverted In-Universe. Yuji not only seems to genuinely like his fans, but gladly helps Mordecai with his problem, albeit partially due to his own autocorrect issues.
  • Felony Misdemeanor: The Phone Guardians summon Mordecai and Rigby for doing the worst thing imaginable - texting the same message more than three times.
  • Person as Verb: Due to Mordecai's awkward moments with Margaret, "Pulling a Mordecai" is the act of never making a move, while at the same time, not knowing what to do with your hands.
  • Relationship Upgrade: Mordecai and CJ at the end of the episode.
  • So Bad, It's Good: In-Universe example: CJ and Mordecai both view Extreme Barista as this, with CJ even texting as much, while Rigby seems to genuinely enjoy it.
  • Shout-Out: The title of Yuji's book, "P.S. I Love Yuji", is similar to ''P.S. I Love You''.
  • Story Arc: After a rather long gap, this episode continues Mordecai and CJ's romance subplot.
