And that's when the Toy Ship TJ and Spinelli set sail.

The Recess Gang is telling each other scary or weird stories when a ten-year-old named Butch comes to tell them the scariest story of them all: his big brother Joey kissing a girl and liking it. So, the Recess Gang conducts an experiment to see if Butch is right. Guess who have to kiss each other...

Tropes:

  • Big "NO!":
    • TJ and Spinelli upon drawing the shortest straws and finding out they have to kiss each other.
    • Also Jimmy as he falls victim to an Alien Abduction in Vince's story at the beginning of the episode.
  • Book Dumb: For some reason, Spinelli won't believe that the Earth revolves around the Sun.
Gretchen: Which explains the D- she got in science.
  • Brick Joke / Bookends: The episode opens with Vince telling the other boys the story of Jimmy Kratmer, who was innocently playing with his football in the park when he gets abducted by aliens. The episode ends with the aliens dropping the unharmed Jimmy off at Third Street Elementary and Jimmy running inside to catch his next class.
  • Concert Kiss: Thanks to their friends' inability to keep a secret, T.J. and Spinelli end up kissing in front of all the kids in the playground.
  • Disease Bleach: Part of Butch's hair has turned white due to seeing his teenage brother make out with a girl he liked.
  • Drawing Straws: Vince uses this method to select who gets to kiss who. TJ and Spinelli get the two shortest straws.
  • Establishing Character Moment: As the Bearer of Bad News in his debut episode, Butch tells the Recess Gang his scary story of how he accidentally saw his teenage brother and his girlfriend making out, which explains the skunk stripe in his hair.
  • Faux Horrific: Being ten years old and in the fifth grade, Butch thinks that his older brother making out with his girlfriend is horrible, to the point that the mere revelation itself gives him his signature skunk stripe.
  • First Kiss: And it's between TJ and Spinelli. As an experiment.
  • Held Gaze: TJ and Spinelli after their Orbital Kiss.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Mikey chastises the other members of the gang for blabbing about the "experiment" to other kids against the wishes of T.J. and Spinelli, only for a couple of other kids to thank Mikey for telling them about it, proving that Mikey is just as guilty as them.
  • Laughing Mad: Butch: "I have seen the future, and the future... IS GIRLS! Boys kissing girls, girls kissing boys! And you know what else? YOU'RE ALL GOING TO LIKE IT! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"
  • Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy: Upon being selected to kiss each other, TJ and Spinelli react in different ways. TJ bids his childhood a sad goodbye, only to hug his old stuffed monkey upon finding it. Meanwhile, Spinelli is trashing her room, and upon finding her old stuffed monkey, she throws it across the room too.
  • Orbital Kiss: Played for all it's worth, complete with the playground scenery suddenly transforming into a fairy-tale land and back again, implying that they actually did like it. Of course, they have to pretend to be grossed out to save face.
  • Practice Kiss: As pictured.

The Experiment

T.J. and Spinelli get roped into being the playground's test subjects for this strange, new concept they've heard of called "kissing." Only one way to find out what it's really like...

How well does it match the trope?
