Strogg Ship is the second mission in the Nintendo 64 version of Quake II. The unit was given a name when the whole campaign was ported into the 2023 remastered edition.After escaping from the Strogg Freighter, Viper now has to move through an icy planet that clearly it's not Stroggos, but it's closer to it.
The levels of this unit are "Zaxite Mines" and "Storage Facility".
- Broken Bridge:
- In "Zaxite Mines", access to the Storage Facility is a locked door in the hub area with the bottomless pit.
- In "Storage Facility", access to the surface is locked behind a forcefield.
- Continuity Nod:
- The unit immediately following the "Strogg Freighter" being a planet with icy rocks and slippery surfaces mirrors the last two units of The Reckoning, with the Moon Unit being analogous to this unit. "Zaxite Mines" also contains a secret in a frozen pool that's accessed by destroying the frozen layer of the lake.
- Much like "The Warehouse" from the main game, in "Storage Facility" you need to trigger a button that moves a conveyor that leaves an explosive box at a blinded door that you have to destroy in order to continue.
- Mid-Boss: The Super Tank, fought at the tail end of "Storage Facility".
- Rewarding Vandalism:
- The only secret area in "Zaxite Mines" requires blasting a piece of ice.
- The secret Megahealth in "Storage Facility" requires an explosive box to be shot.
- Slippy-Slidey Ice World: "Zaxite Mines" has two areas where Frictionless Ice is quite present.
- Suspicious Video-Game Generosity: There's a secret BFG10K in the area where you trigger the lasers in "Storage Facility". Once you return to the arena, you face the Mid-Boss.
- Teleporting Keycard Squad:
- In "Zaxite Mines", a pack of 4 mutants appear in the cave area once the door to the geo-stabilizer controls is unlocked.
- In "Storage Facility":
- A Machinegun Guard awaits Viper once he unlocks access to the surface.
- Once the laser was triggered, a new door opens that sends you to the first area after the teleporter. Two Icari in this portion, and another one in the corridor to the arena await you. Not to mention the Mid-Boss.
