With his recently captured Hisscor, nicknamed Viper, Flash is eager to use it in future Pokémon battles. Unfortunately, the task proves little more than difficult.
- Big Bad Duumvirate: The two antagonists of the chapter are Geckoxic and its evolved sibling, Frillace.
- Defeat Means Friendship: Subverted. Even though Viper was defeated and captured in the previous chapter, it's shown that he's still hostile towards Flash and his friends, often disobeying commands from his trainer. Over the course of this chapter though, Viper warms up to Flash.
- Cliffhanger: The chapter ends with another trainer finding the Geckoxic that caused the whole mess for Flash and the others and commenting it "could be useful".
- Disqualification-Induced Victory: Because Viper uses way too much excessive force against Owlicious, and doesn't listen to Flash through the entire match, Doc declares Owlicious the official winner.
- Heel–Face Turn: After he and Flash work together to cross a broken bridge and save each other's lives, Viper becomes more friendly and obedient to his trainer.
- Karma Houdini: Viper causes several Pokémon in the group to get poisoned by Geckoxic due to refusing to apologize to it for accidentally burning its tail. Viper himself however didn't get poisoned due to having an immunity, being part Poison-Type himself. Flash is very frustrated that Viper caused the mess but gets to avoid punishment for it.
- Kick the Dog: For no other reason than to spite Flash, Hisscor really goes out of his way to beat down on Owlicious, even though their battle is just a sparring match.
- Poisonous Person: The Frillace has sharp frills that can deliver a fatally venomous bite.
- Samus Is a Girl: The Frillace that Geckoxic brought to fight Flash and Viper goes red faced with anger when Flash calls it Geckoxic's "big brother". Turns out, Frillace is a girl.
- Super Spit: The Geckoxic has an internal venom sack that allows it to spit venom at its opponents.
- What Is This Feeling?: Viper feels guilt for the first time when the others are poisoned because of him. He might not like the other Pokémon very much, but he never wanted them to get sick.
