Go To

A pair of mysterious women witness from afar a tragic scene —Queen Bloom Oðrsson, Queen Stella Seren, and Trisha Oðrsson (Bloom's youngest daughter) have been killed. Altalune Oðrsson (Bloom's eldest daughter) and Stacy Seren (Stella's daughter) stumble on their corpses. It turns out to be a Flashback Nightmare that Altalune is suffering. This strengthens her determination to travel to the past in order to Set Right What Once Went Wrong.

Tropes:

  • Cerebus Roller Coaster: Downplayed. The fic starts with Altalune waking from a Flashback Nightmare from when she and Stacy their mothers' corpses and Altalune's little sister's unconscious body at the brink of death. She then promises herself she shall Screw Destiny and save them and is comforted by a friend in a heart-warming moment.
  • Epigraph: The prologue opens with a bit of dialogue between two Named by the Adaptation, OC Stand-Ins who by the time the fanfic takes place, are both long dead —Hellis, nymph of the sun, and Nótt Skoð, nymph of time and the void. They are talking about how You Can't Fight Fate, a Central Theme of the fic. Their inclusion also serves two establish three facts that are mostly reread bonuses. One, the Great Dragon's nymphs are going to be of key relevance throughout the plot. Two, it reaffirms that time travel kickstarts the plot but also foreshadows that it's part of the reason why things are the way they are. And three, it brings attention to an important detail, that Nótt's reincarnation (aka Morrigan, Daphne's daughter) is an importat behind-the-scenes player.
Nótt Skoð: No importan las circunstancias, ni el espacio, ni el tiempo, Hellis... cuando los hilos del destino se entrelazan, las personas implicadas están condenadas a encontrarse.Translation
  • Flashback Nightmare: Altalune receives one of these just before she leaves to start the events of the main plotline. This unpleasant dream of hers is also a Past Experience Nightmare and a Guilt-Induced Nightmare at the same time — it was about her childhood trauma when she found her mother and Stella's corpses along with what she thought was her sister's. Truth be told, little Trisha truly was on the brink of death.
  • In Medias Res: Paradoxus begins explaining why Altalune and her little sister Trisha are about to embark on a risky plan to somehow prevent their mother's murder. It's not known how or why Bloom died, much less how they are going to accomplish it or why Trisha thinks Altalune's plan is foolish. Furthermore, we don't know who the three women watching from afar are.
  • Left Field Description: Altalune's Nightmare Sequence ends with her bolting upright in her bed, panting. Her heartbeats are compared to a jazz musician playing the piano —an everchanging rhythm and a drumming of keys.
"los latidos al estilo de un pianista de jazz, estrellando los dedos sobre las teclas"
  • Rewatch Bonus: Those mysterious women talking about how You Can't Fight Fate at the beginning of the chapter? They are Daphne and Galadwen, regretting how Bloom and Stella's tragic deaths were unavoidable all along. The unconscious woman they are tending to is a grown-up Altalune, recently defeated and nearly killed by Eudora.
