Contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Arbitrary Scepticism: Tim doesn’t believe the stories about Nathan and Haley getting married, pointing to the "rumours" about Lucas moving Charleston when he’s standing right next to him.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: Brooke’s online dating profile for Peyton is briefly seen on-screen, and includes love triangles amongst the Likes and "boys named Lucas" amongst the Dislikes.
  • Fun with Acronyms: Haley calls Lucas "Bill" to his confusion when they arrive at school, then clarifies she meant "B.I.L. - Brother In Law"
  • Lampshade Hanging: Peyton notes the irony to Lucas of her getting a temporary tattoo reading "Naley Forever".
  • Locked Out of the Loop:
    • Tim isn’t aware that Lucas actually left Tree Hill only to return after a day, so instead thinks that the stories about Lucas leaving town were made up.
    • Lucas thinks Brooke and Peyton read the letter he left when he left for Charleston, unaware that they burnt it reasoning that he wasn’t going to be around anymore; however, when Lucas refers to the contents of the letter, the girls wind up having to pretend they knew what he was referring to. Eventually the girls come clean about burning the letter, but Lucas isn’t too bothered as they seem to have to moved past their love triangle regardless.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Peyton getting a temporary tattoo, and showing it to Lucas, provides the viewer a prolonged look at her legs.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Averted - Keith initially plans to head back to Charleston after checking on Dan following his heart attack, but his plans are changed when Dan asks for his help running the dealership.
  • Shipper on Deck: Lucas organises a wedding reception for Nathan and Haley, and recruits Peyton and Brooke to help by pointing out that everyone is too busy saying they’re too young to be married instead of showing them support.
  • Shout-Out: Brooke’s online dating profile for Peyton lists Keane, Modest Mouse and Pilot To Gunner as her favorite bands.
  • Teen Pregnancy: Discussed as Brooke assumes that this is the real reason for Nathan and Haley’s marriage, and keeps insisting on the matter to the point that Haley has to reveal her birth control to Brooke so that she finally accepts that the marriage was because they love each other.
  • Titled After the Song: The episode title is taken from the song "Truth Doesn't Make A Noise" by The White Stripes.
  • The Unreveal: When he finds out about the girls burning his letter, Lucas isn’t too bothered and lets the matter go without mentioning the contents.
  • "Well Done, Son" Guy: Deb is the only person who doesn’t publicly support Nathan and Haley’s marriage. Dan doesn’t either, but he’s willing to put on a front for the time being.
