Tropes

  • An Arm and a Leg: Compress loses an arm when trying to attack Overhaul, thanks to his namesake Quirk.
  • Bad Boss: Overhaul doesn't hesitate to use one of his minions as a human shield against Shigaraki.
  • Benevolent Boss: On the other hand, Shigaraki is enraged at Mange's death and Compress losing an arm to Overhaul and is disgusted when the latter uses of his minions as a human shield.
  • Bloodier and Gorier: Magne's death is one of the goriest moments in the manga already, but the anime made it even worse, by having her not only explode, but also her blood rain in such a way to even leave a mist of blood in the room.
  • Character Death: Magne's death leaves a serious impact to the rest of the League. When they attempt to avenge her when Overhaul's group leave, Shigaraki tells them all to hold off. For now, anyway, since they will not let this slide for very long.
  • Establishing Character Moment:
    • The League of Villains in general display how close they are as a group despite their setbacks, and why they are so defiant to society. Mange is the first to stand up to Overhaul and her flashback shows how a friend encourages her to carry this defiance out. When she dies, the rest of League show anger for someone messing with one of their own.
    • Sir Nighteye is shown to be extremely strict, but will subject his sidekick to Tickle Torture if she fails to pour humor in her report.
    • Meanwhile, Overhaul makes a very clear statement of his own via the death of one League member and the maiming of another as part of a casual introduction.
  • Exact Words: All Might tells Midoriya that he, specifically, is unable to introduce him to Sir Nighteye because he and his sidekick split for personal reasons. He then calls on Togata to do so instead.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Shigaraki is appalled by Overhaul's lack of regard for his minions.
  • Evil Power Vacuum: All For One's defeat leaves this in the criminal underworld, leaving Overhaul and Shigaraki to fight for who will take over. For the moment, Overhaul has to means to fill the void, and invites the League to serve under him.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Bakugo is overjoyed to hear that the rest of the class won't be making their internships, because he can't do it either since he failed the License Exam. He is upset when he realizes they can, after all, do it, while he'll be still trying to get a license.
  • Must Make Him Laugh: Togata tells Midoriya that the key to getting on Sir Nighteye's good side is to invoke this. Midoriya decides to make an "All Might" face impression, as shown in Season 2, but all it seemingly accomplishes in doing is just pissing him off.
  • On One Condition: Aizawa announces that the UA faculty was planning to put the Internship program on hold due to increased villain activity, but they agree to let the students take part... on the condition that the Hero Offices they choose have a good track record in employing students. Anyone who can't find a qualified one will have to take class as normal.
